The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

The ladies are a vibrant part of the club

-

THE ladies branch at Killarney Golf & Fishing club would like to wish the club and its members the very best as we celebrate our 125 years Anniversary.

The ladies club have a lot to celebrate and we are very proud of our wonderful achievements over the past 125 years. We are a proactive and energetic club with almost 400 lady members and over 30 junior girl members. The very popular Lady Captain, Sheila Crowley, and her hard working committee are at the helm for 2018 and Sheila’s energy, professionalism, fun and dedication is evident in every tiny detail throughout the club.

Moreover, our junior girl captain for 2018 is the renowned and awesome Irish International lady golfer and honorary life member, Mairead Martin. Mairead has been hitting the sport and golfing headlines for many years and she has represented both our club and country gallantly, always with such class and professionalism wherever she travels throughout the world. Our girls Junior Club is also highly progressive and very active.

Sincerest thanks goes to our Pro David Keating who invests so much time training these young girls. It’s good to know that his efforts are paying off as we now have a thriving and successful girls club with talented players such as Valerie Clancy who is now a Junior Irish Girls International.

Most of you are probably aware that the ladies teams have achieved a unique historical record in the history of Killarney Golf and Fishing Club and in the history of the ILGU (Irish Ladies Golf Union). In the club’s 125 years, this is the first time that the Ladies Club have won a Senior and also the first time in the club’s history that they have achieved a double All-Ireland in the same year. To win any championship at All-Ireland level is a wonderful achievement, but to win both Senior Cup and Senior Foursomes in the same year is simply incredible. It is a remarkable historical feat as KGFC Ladies Branch is the only club in the country to have achieved this.

Lastly, the ladies club at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club offer a wonderful community for golf enthusiasts and is currently open for membership. We have an exciting calendar of events planned to celebrate our 125 year Anniversary and we invite our members and the local community to join with us in the celebrations throughout the year.
