Tarber t back in the hunt with big win in first Currans tie

A GAME where one team hammers the other by twenty eight points isn’t normally one that would linger long in the memory – particular for a neutral.

Tarbert’s victory over Sneem / Derrynane on Sunday afternoon is a different kettle of fish, however, if only because of where it was played. This was the first competitive game played at Kerry GAA’ new centre of excellence at Currans.

For Tarbert it was just what the doctor ordered after they failed to see off Scartaglen on home soil in last weekend. The victory – coupled with Castlegregory’s win over Scaraglen – means that draw won’t cost them the chance at a place in the semi-finals.

Their game with Castlegregory this weekend, in Castlegregory was always likely to be a winner takes all affair and that’s how it’s going to turn out.

The first half was really encouraging for the north Kerry outfit. Early goals by Mark Buckley and Shea McDonnell left Tarbert 2-10 to 0-4 Up at halftime. Even though they played the first half with the breeze at their backs there was little fear that Sneem / Derrynane could overcome that sort of a deficit.

Tarbert, against the wind in the second half continued their dominance and goals from Eamon O’Callaghan and a second by Mark Buckley sealed a convincing win for Tarbert.
