The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)

Group phase reaches its crunch point

County Board PRO Leona Twiss with all the GAA news

-

LAST weekend was another extremely busy weekend with so many games taking place around the county.

Great crowds turned out to witness some very tight encounters while other games were very one-sided! We send our best wishes to the two Finuge men who had a terrible accident during the Na Gaeil v Finuge game and pray for a speedy recovery.

This weekend it’s Round 3 games which is the final round in the round robin series of the Senior, Intermediate, Junior Premier and Junior Championship. The top team in each of the senior groups qualify for the final.

The top team in each Group qualifies for the semi-finals in the Intermediate, Junior Premier and Junior Championship. The draw for the semi-finals will take place next Sunday evening.

A reminder that there is no extra times in these games and if there is a clash of colours, both sides must change. The Kerry players are back training with Kerry, but will continue to line-out with their club sides at the weekends. Home PROs are asked to forward a report to their county league coordinators.

Minors

WE wish the Kerry Minors every success as they begin their Munster campaign with a quarter final away fixture to Tipperary in Semple Stadium, Thurles tonight [Wednesday] at 7pm.

If they win their opening game, they have a break until May 8th but if they lose to Tipperary they will be out again next week to face the loser of the Limerick V Clare game.

As was agreed at a County Committee meeting, this year’s captain was chosen by the Manager, the County Chairman and the Liaison Officer, in consultation with East Kerry. On Monday evening the team was announced and Paul O’Shea, Kilcummin has the honour of being named captain.

We also wish Kerry Referee Brendan Griffin the best of luck as he takes charge of the quarter final between Cork and Waterford also on tonight.
