CURROW/CURRANS

-

LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB: Ladies Foorball Year has got off to a flying start with our U12, and Senior Teams all having games in the last week.A very young Currow U12 Team played Legion in the Grading division and put up a great performance before losing to the very Strong Killarney Girls on a score of 5-14 to 1-0.Our Senior Ladies even though they took to the field with a much weakened Team due to Sickness, Injuries and College Exams; made a winning start to the Division 3 County League when they had a 3-09 to 0-03 win over the Causeway/ Beale combination in Ballybunion. Currow made a blistering start to the match and led by 2-02 to 0-01 after 15 minutes, with Maggie O’Sullivan and Louise Nelligan scoring the Goals and our 2 brilliant Mid Fielders Cathy Cronin and Micheala Breen kicking the points.

With Fiona Nelligan McGuire and Edel Brosnan outstanding in our Half Back line we kept Causeway/Beale scoreless for the rest of the half with Ciara Fitzgerald scoring a goal and a point and Louise Neligan, Maggie O’Sullivan and Colleeb Breen (2) adding points to see us lead 3-06 to 0-01 at half time. Causeway/Beale made a good start to the second half and scored 2 points, but with Kerri McCarthy and Anna Fitzgerald outstanding in our Full Back line and Leona McEnery pulling off two outstanding saves, we held then scoreless for the rest of the game with Cira Fitzgerald, Colleen Breen and Margo Brosnan from a free adding 3 more Points for currow to see us run out winners 3-09 to 0-03. Our next County League is away to Fossa in the Old Fossa Pitch on Sunday next April 15th at 12 noon. INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP: On Saturday evening last Currow travelled to Spa Killarney to take them on in round 2 of the Intermediate Championship. Even after very heavy rain their new pitch was in excellent condition but the downpour during the game made for very tricky playing conditions. Currow were first on the scoreboard with a free from Mike Mc Carthy. Seamus Scanlon was moving between midfield and full forward and he was in there to knock a long ball down for John Buckley to put it over the bar to make the score 0-02 to no score after six minutes. Spa got their first point on nine minutes & on the quarter hour mark the sides were level at 0-03 each. By the half time break Spa had outscored Currow 0=9 to 0-06. The Currow scores coming from Dan O’ Shea 0-2 and John Buckley 0-1.

Spa started the second half the brighter and scored 0-02 points in quick succession to make the score 0-11 to 0-06 after five minutes. By the three quarter hour mark Currow had brought themselves back into it with scores from Dan O’ Shea 0-2 and Mike Mc Carthy 0-01. On the 21st minute a long ball was floated in by Dan O’ Shea that John Buckley won and rattled the Spa net this made the score Spa 0-13 Currow 1-10 and game on. Points from Dan O’ Shea and Mike Mc Carthy made the sore 1-12 to 0-14 points coming into injury time but a last second goal from Spa made the final score Spa 1-14 Currow 1-12.

A very disappointing final score line but a super performance from all players and mentors.
