SENIOR FOOTBALL CASTLEISLAND MART INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP Milltown / Castlemaine 0-9 Kilcummin 1-14. A good result which sets up a showdown with Brosna next Sunday. A win will see us qualify for the semi-finals but a loss could see scoring averages become an issue. Fielding without a number of injured regulars we acquitted ourselves well on a very heavy pitch. A superb William Maher goal which he finished low to the corner gave us some breathing space after 15 minutes but Milltown Castlemaine rallied well and it took some great defending from the likes of Jamie O’Donoghue, Philip Casey and Daniel Moynihan to keep them at bay. However we lead by 5 points at the interval after Gary O’Leary, who had a fine game, Noel Duggan and Kevin McCarthy pointed just before the break. The second half saw us maintain our advantage throughout driven on by the likes of Kevin Gorman and Shane McSweeney. A long range free and a penalty save from Brendan Kealy were significant but points by Philip Casey (two) and the excellent Sean O’Leary (one) complimented the scoring power of the forwards. Team Brendan Kealy, (0-1) Jamie O’Donoghue, Daniel Moynihan, Sean O’Leary, (0-1) Donal Maher, Philip Casey, (0-3) William Maher, Kevin Gorman, Shane McSweeney, Matt Keane, Gary O’Leary (0-3) Mikey O’Shea, (0-1), Kevin McCarthy (0-2), Damien O’Leary, Noel Duggan (0-3). Subs used, Chris O’Leary, Kelvin Teahan, John McCarthy, Daniel O’Leary. Next game Kilcummin V Brosna in Kilcummin this Sunday 15th at 2.30pm.
