SCHOOLS FOOTBALL

Holy Trinity Cookstown 4.11 Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine Kenmare 2.8. It was not a very good Easter weekend for Kerry Schools in the latter stages of the various All Ireland Schools football competitions. Saint Brendan’s lost the All Ireland A Football final in the under 16 and a half to Colaiste Mhuire Mullingar. Pobalscoil Corca Dhuibhne lost the All Ireland A Team semi final to Saint Ronans Lurgan. In the All Ireland B team final Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine Kenmare were well beaten by Holy Trinity Cookstown 4.11 to 2.8. Pobalscoil Inbhear Scéine got off to a tremendous start, a goal by Daniel Casey and soon after Donal O’Sullivan Down who was creating havoc to the Cookstown defence was fouled in the small square and the penalty was converted by Dylan O’Connor just after 15 minutess.

Inbhear Scéine lead by 10 points 2.5 to 0.1, so you get the feeling that the game was over.

However before half time Cookstown were 2.6 to 2.6 each.

The dry but bitter cold wind of Abbotstown and facing into a strong wind did not help Inbhear Scéine, the team could only add two points in the second half to 2.5 to Cookstown. Kerry teams, even school teams have great difficulty meeting the cutting edge of sport with the Northern GAA teams never the less Inbhear Scéine had a very good year winning the Munster B for the first time. While some better players Donal O’Sullivan Down, Daniel Casey and Jamie Harrington will do their leaving cert in June, the team is a very young team and some promising under age players are on the way to come up to the required standard. The team will have gained valuable experience and should be very competitive at this level in the 2018-2019 season. The following Kilgarvan players were part of the Inbhear Scéine team Jack Foley, Daniel Casey, Donal O’Sullivan Down, Liam Twomey and Gary Randles. Gary was on a school trip to China for the semi Final game.

COUNTY CLEAN UP

Saturday April 14th 2018 is clean up day in Kerry, volunteers to meet at St Patricks Church Kilgarvan at 12:00 noon. Over the past few weeks Kilgarvan Community Development CE workers have been very active doing the clean up on the road from Loo Bridge to the Creamery Bridge Kenmare. Over one hundred bags of rubbish was collected. It is a situation that we would prefer to be much less as this is a main tourist road in west Cork and south Kerry. It is a job that is done every year for the last twelve years and if any comment could be made, it is getting worse.
