Kerry’s in the money as local duo enjoy a ‘Winning Streak’
FORGET green and gold – Kerry is all gold this week after not one, but two Kerry players enjoyed a very successful Saturday night on RTÉ’S ‘Winning Streak’ – bringing home a total of €46,000 between them.
Margaret Flaherty from Milltown and Tralee’s Caitríona Dunne were the lucky duo whose names were called out last week and, on Saturday night, the pair were greatly rewarded as they scooped impressive tallies of €28,000 and €18,000 apiece.
Caitríona, who works as a retail assistant in Penney’s in Tralee, said she was left in a week -long shock in the days running up to the show and that this shock has not yet dissipated after winning such a princely sum.
She said that while she does not yet know what she will do with her winnings, there was a very good chance that her three boys, Shane, Gerard and Jaden and partner, Tom O’Sullivan, will be well-treated.
Meanwhile, Milltown’s Margaret Flaherty – who is a full time carer for her mother – admitted that the last few days have been just a little bit surreal.
Margaret went on to say that she has been overwhelmed by the inundation of support from her local community, with callers and visitors to her house bringing flowers, chocolates and good-luck cards.
Back in 2012 Margared won the first prize of a Limousin heifer in a raffle at the annual Puck Fair in Killorglin, although she opted to take the cash alternative of €1,500. With her Winning Streak winnings, Margaret says that she will be upgrading her car.
She is a big fan of American football and an equally enthusiastic Seattle Seahawks supporter.
It’s been a stellar few weeks for the county on the Winning Streak front with the number of Kerry locals appearing on the show – and long may it continue!
