CURROW CURRANS

LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB: On Sunday last April 15th our Senior Team played our 2nd Game in the County League when we took on Fossa in Fossa. The game was close from the start and after 15 minutes Fossa Led 0-03 to 0-01 with Louise Nelligan getting our first Point. However disaster struck for us as Fossa scored 2 Goals in 3 minutes the first a long range Free which deceived our backs and goalie and dropped under the cross bar to the Net, and the second came from a flowing move with a blistering shot from 14 yards out.Fossa went on to add 3 more points before our Girls finished strongly with points from Breda McMahon and Maggie O’Sullivan, to let the half time score Fossa 2-06 Currow 0-03. Despite the setbacks of the first half our Ladies made a blistering start to the second half and with goals by Louise Nelligan and Maggie O’Sullivan and points by Ciara Fitzgerald (2) and with our backs keeping Fossa scoreless for the first 20 minutes we only trailed by a point with 10 minutes to go. However Fossa broke up field to score a goal against the run of Play and added 2 points from free’s, before Ciara Fitzgerald scored another Currow Goal after a defence splitting run and and try as we did we could not close the gap in the last 5 minutes with points from Fiona Nelligan McGuire and Catherine Cronin cancelled out by 2 late Fossa scores which saw us come up short by 4 points on a final score of Fossa 3-11 Currow 3-07. We Play Legion in the next Round of the county League next Sunday at 12 noon in Currow.
