SCHOOLS LINE UP FOR SHOT AT GLORY MINI-7S FINALS
THE Club Championships might be winding to a conclusion over the next 10 days but the pressure is ratcheting up for those teams left in the race for silverware, including Dr Crokes and Dingle who contest the Senior Club Final this Sunday in Tralee.
The two Intermediate Football semi-finals and the two Premier Junior semi-finals also go ahead on Saturday and Sunday, while the Junior Championship finalists, Lispole and Beale, have a little over a week to prepare for their county final on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
Defending Senior Club champions Dr Crokes and Dingle will welcome back a plethora of Kerry players for Sunday’s final in Austin Stack Park, although Mikey Geaney and Gavin White are expected to miss out through injury.
Coincidentally the teams played each last weekend in the third round of the County League with Crokes winning by 2-12 to 0-7 in Dingle, but Dingle manager Sean Geaney and Dr Crokes selector Edmund O’Sullivan are both expecting a far more competitive and tighter contest in the rematch.
Meanwhile, Glenflesk against St Marys, Kilcummin versus Templenoe do battle to see which pair will contest the following week’s Intermediate Championship final.
The Premier Junior Championship sees a real David versus Goliath battle with Division One club Beaufort taking on Division Five side Churchill in Milltown, while David Clifford will be in action for Fossa when they take on Na Gaeil in the other semi-final in Listry.
Meanwhile, Beale and Lispole will contest the following weekend’s Junior Football Championship final after winning respective derbies against Castlegregory and Ballyduff at the weekend.
Most of the Kerry panellists were away on training duty last weekend but those clubs in club championship action this weekend will have their county men available.
