Celé’s wedding plans run into a right royal problem

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

MAY 19 is going to be a big day for the British royal family – but no less so for Killarney girl Celé Brits will marry the love of her life Lawrence Mason just 20 minutes away from where Prince Harry and Megan Markle will tie the knot.

When Celé, who grew up in Aghadoe, Killarney, chose her wedding date last September she never once thought that it would clash with a British royal wedding. And the clash is turning out to be a royal pain.

“Celé is getting married in Burnham while Prince Harry is getting married in Windsor. They are in the same district. We don’t know what to expect but we know that where we are staying is a crucial road,” says mother-of-the-bride, Jeanne.

Jeanne and her husband, Stephan, will be among a party of 12 from Killarney who are travelling to London for the nuptials. This includes four out of the five bridesmaids.

The family contacted local police to find out if they need to make any special arrangements and have been told that they may need permits to go to their own family wedding.

“It is very stressful. My biggest fear is that Celé may have to wait for us and the guests to arrive,” said Jeanne.

“We will be travelling the same route [as the royal family] and our predicament is that the roads will be closed. We weren’t expecting this crowd around London for the day. The police are telling us that permits might be needed.”

Although the bride is remaining calm about the situation, Jeanne is fretting and last week wrote to the Queen of England to ask her advice on what to do.

Celé attended Mercy National School in Killarney and later the Intermediate School in Killorglin. The family moved from South Africa when Celé was six and she is currently working in London as a theatre nurse.
