NEW TRIATHLON CLUB TAKES ON ITS FIRST ROUTE IN KILLARNEY
THERE was much excitement for Killarney Triathlon Club as it held its first event in the town on Saturday morning, as it attempts to grow its ever-expanding membership.
The club is already up to 32 members, and great fun was had by all on a fine Saturday morning’s athleticism.
The day’s action began with a pool swim at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre and was followed by a 40-minute cycle ahead of its completion, a five-kilometre run taking in the Killarney bypass route.
The internationally experienced Declan O’Donoghue might be an example of talent at its highest level within the club, but he was very keen to emphasise that the group is there to help not only the most advanced, but also complete beginners.
“The main purpose of the event was to promote our club and get more people interested in what we do,” Declan told The Kerryman.
“We have 32 members at the moment and we’re hoping to get more people on board as we go along. We would like to get more events like this going over the summer, and maybe bring more of what we do outdoors.
“The emphasis on Saturday was more on enjoyment than competition because we’re trying to get more and more people involved with our club. We’re there to help all people who want to take part, whether they’re at elite level or taking part in these activities for the very first time,” he added.
For anyone interested in being a part of the club, seeking updates on club activities, or looking any further information, Declan recommended the club’s Facebook page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/KillarneyTriClub/,
