Getting hospitality in on a green future
HOSPITALITY groups have been invited to attend a briefing run by a member of GreenHospitality.ie from 9.30am to 12.30pm in the Brehon Hotel on May 1 as Killarney steps up its bid to be national winners in the Tidy Towns competitions.
The message was scheduled to be sent out yesterday, Tuesday, April 24. Brehon Hotel General Manager Sinead McCarthy is setting up a sub-group for the hospitality sector to co-ordinate efforts to bring them on board with what Killarney Tidy Towns is attempting to achieve.
“It’s at no cost to anyone as it’s being sponsored by the Brehon,” Killarney Tidy Towns Meitheal’s Johnny McGuire explained. “It’ll be sent out by the Irish Hotels Federation [IHF] and Killarney Chamber of Commerce. We’re being proactive in getting the hospitality sector involved in enhancing their involvement in protecting our environment.”
Killarney scored 21 out of 50 in last year’s competition, and 26 out of 50 would have seen them crowned national champions.
The briefing will demonstrate good environmental practices while also outlining major cost-saving opportunities that go with resource efficiency, particularly on the energy front. They will also provide an update on availability of the Lighting Grant Aid and the forthcoming Renewable Heating Support Scheme.
