The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Huge turnout for Kerry ETB’s expo at the Brandon
THERE was a huge turnout for the Kerry Education and Training Boards’ annual expo which took place at the Brandon Conference Centre last Thursday.
Students from the length and breadth of the county – as well as plenty more from farther afield – descended on Tralee for the Further Education and Training Fair which has become something of a highlight of Kerry’s educational calendar.
The huge expo brought together the KETB’s five rural education centres; its five Further Education Colleges, the KETB training Centre at Monavalley in Tralee and the teams who run KETB community education courses in over 100 Kerry parishes.
Of course the event wasn’t just for second level students with lots on offer for mature students; job seekers and those seeking to upskill to help them advance in the workplace.
The Brandon Conference Centre was a hive of activity all day with a huge array of events, demonstrations and prize giveaways taking place throughout the morning and afternoon.
KETB staff and learners were on hand to give guests a glimpse of the many courses offered by the board with a range of live demonstrations taking place all over the spacious conference centre which was packed to the rafters with interactive displays and information desks.
Among the demonstrations attendees could sample everything from cookery and hairdressing to stone cutting, photography, dog grooming, motor mechanics, welding and fabrication.
As well as these displays there were plenty of experts on hand to provide career guidance and advice on various topics including student grants and finance.
There was so much to see and do that at times the event became a little dizzying but there can be no doubt that anyone who attended last Thursday will surely have come away with plenty of ideas about where their future careers might take them.
