Coffee morning in aid of Angela’s Ugandan quest

-

A GLENFLESK nurse has high hopes of making a major difference to the less fortunate in Uganda this summer as she plans to take part in a volunteer programme in the African country.

Angela McCarthy hopes to travel with a team from UCD to Kisiizi Hospital, spending four weeks with physiotherapy and nutrition students as she helps to educate families of children with Cerebral Palsy. She will undertake nutritional screening and workshops in the locality. She will also help the day-to-day running in the hospital.

Preparing for her final year of a Master’s degree in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics in the Dublin college, she is a qualified nurse with four years’ experience. She currently cares for premature and sick infants in Rotunda Maternity Hospital, Dublin.

Each volunteer must raise €2,600 to be a part of the project, and a coffee morning has been organised by her family in the Kerry Way Bar, Glenflesk, from 10am to midday this Saturday. The funds raised will towards the cost of the project.

“I would be so grateful for any donations that people are able to give,” Angela said. “You can all be confident that all money donated, no matter how little or large, will go directly towards the project and I`m sure you will agree it is a worthy cause.”
