The Top Five things about Rock Street...

-

ROCK Street is one of Tralee’s most iconic thoroughfares with its rich social and economic history the signs of which can still be seen today. There are, of course, far more than just ‘five’ positives to Rock Street, but here’s a synopsis of the main points:

Variety: Rock Street is one of the most self-sufficient locations in Tralee with shops and services extending from the top to the bottom of the Rock. You could quite easily remove the rest of Tralee town and Rock Street would still be left standing with everything a person needs. From a post office and garage, to a chemist and hardware store, you name it the street has it. There’s nothing it can’t provide.

Parking: As well as ample on-street parking, Rock Street is one of a few locations away from the town centre where ample parking is available. The street itself caters for numerous vehicles, but there’s also multi-storey parking space available, while Garvey’s SuperValu also have a vast parking space for its customers.

Socialising: The Rock boasts some of the best public houses in Tralee and at weekends it’s a great spot. The street is ‘sports mad’ and with live screenings of big games and sports events in the bars at weekends it only adds to the atmosphere. You’re also guaranteed to hear a good story or two, but whether you believe them or not is up to you!

Progress: Rock Street has borne the brunt of many economic recessions in its time but if there’s one thing the street is accustomed to, it is fighting back. Through the generations the range of shops and businesses have evolved in the face of tough times. But evolve it has and today the street consists of a vibrant and eclectic range of services. This is all down to the resourcefulness of business people intent on enhancing Rock Street’s reputation.

Character: Lastly, one thing about Rock Street that refuses to change is its unique character. In just a short stroll through the street you’ll meet people who are the ‘salt of the earth’. Rock Street is unique in that retains its old charm and character, while also welcoming new people who are the street’s future.

This is a part of Tralee where the locals have always met change head-on but never once relinquished who they are and what they stand for.
