The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
County Novice championship gets underway with four games this weekend
Sunday, April 29 2.30pm (extra-time if necessary) Tuosist v Kilgarvan (Tuosist]
TUOSIST are probably the favourites for this one against Kilgarvan. They’ve been having a slightly better County League campaign (Kilgarvan have lost three from three, Tuosist have won one of their two games) and have slightly better form in the junior championship. They lost both games they played (they were awarded the points by Ballylongford), but they gave finalists Beale a run for their money at home.
Moyvane v Ballylongford [Moyvane]
THE smart money is probably on Moyvane for this north Kerry derby. Ballylongford are a team really struggling for numbers at the moment. They fielded just once in the junior championship (when they were hammered by Duagh), while Moyvane were left to rue a second half collapse against Valentia and could’ve challenged for a semi-final berth otherwise.
Asdee v Sneem/Derrynane [Tralee Venue)
ASDEE are another club struggling for numbers at the moment and awarded a walkover to Kilgarvan in the preliminary round of the junior championship. For their part Sneem / Derrynane haven’t exactly been rooting up trees, but they do have games under their belt. Granted they suffered a heavy defeat to Scartaglin in the last round of group phase. Still even that should stand to them.
Knocknagoshel v Clounmacon [Knocknagoshel]
LIKE Asdee, Knocknagoshel gave a walk over in their preliminary round game in the junior championship – to Moyvane – and have lost all their games in the county league, but still it’s hard to imagine that a non-league side like Clounmacon would be able to get the better of them. We probably should never say never, but it would be a surprise.
