THE GAME IN 60 SECONDS

-

MAIN MAN

Ballyduff’s Mikey Boyle was dangerous throughout despite limited supply and he had able back up in Cathal Kearney, Paud Costelloe and Jack Goulding. For Beale Cormac Linnane, Shane Joy and Ian Mannix put in excellent shifts while in attack Darragh Buckley was full of pace and verve . The man that stood out above all others though was James McMahon at full forward, who, in spite of some poor misses in the first half never stopped looking for the ball and showed great leadership for his team, contributing 1-4 to the scoreboard in the process.

KEY MOMENT

A few different factors settled this game. Beale’s two points in succession just before half time from a James McMahon free and Shane Joy certainly had an impact on the contest. Beale found themselves just a point adrift at the break having been largely outplayed for a significant period of the first half. The scores gave them the belief that they could do better, and their two goals in the third quarter came from the confidence garnered from their late first half points.

TALKING POINT

When Ballyduff went early and long Mikey Boyle had the Beale rearguard in all kinds of bother. Boyle won everything that came his way early in the game, both good ball and bad, yet for some reason Ballyduff started to go slow and lateral with their passing. This played into Beale’s hands and ultimately contributed to the Ballybunion side’s victory.
