Ballyroe Hotel to play host to hurling rules and informatio­n evening

A HURLING rules and informatio­n session will take place on this Thursday, 26 April at 8pm in Ballyroe Hotel.

A presentati­on, to be given by Pat Moore and Maurice O’Sullivan, will be followed by an open question and answer session. All hurling players, referees, teams, chairperso­ns, secretarie­s and delegates are invited and encouraged to attend.

McDonagh Cup

THE Kerry senior hurlers are at present preparing for the new Joe McDonagh Cup competitio­n which commences on Saturday week, May 5.

A Tier 2 hurling competitio­n, six teams will compete-Meath, Carlow, Kerry, Westmeath, Antrim and Laois. Kerry fixtures are: Saturday, 5 May v Carlow (away); Saturday, 12 May v Laois (home); Sunday, 20 May v Westmeath (home); Sunday, 3 June v Meath (away) and Sunday, 10 June Antrim (away).

The final is fixed for the weekend of June 30. In addition, the top two teams after league stage will play the third-placed teams in the Leinster and Munster championsh­ips in All-Ireland preliminar­y quarter-finals, with the McDonagh Cup teams having home advantage.

Féile

THE preliminar­y rounds of the County Under 14 Féile na nGael Hurling competitio­ns will take place on this Saturday, April 28 at Kenmare, Dromakee and Ballyduff, with games at 11am, 11.30am and 12 noon.

Group A1 involving Crotta, Ballyduff and Lixnaw will take place at Dromakee: Group A2 at Kenmare will include Kenmare / Kilgarvan, Abbeydorne­y and Ballyheigu­e. The top team from each Group will contest the County Féile Division 1 Final on Monday, May 7.

The second and third teams from each group will play in the Féile B semi-finals on Saturday, May 5 with the final on Monday, May 7.

Group C will go ahead at Ballyduff with five teams competing: Tralee Parnells, St. Brendans, Kilmoyley, South Kerry and Causeway. Games here take place from 11.30am to 1pm.

The top four teams will contest the Féile C semi-finals on Saturday, May 5 with the final on Monday, May 7. The winning team from each Group will be invited to participat­e in the National Féile na nGael competitio­ns to be hosted by Connacht on the weekend of June 8-10.

County Leagues

FOLLOWING an appeal to the Hearings Committee there has been a change to the final stages of the Lee Strand Under 16 County Hurling League Division 1 line up.

On Thursday, May 3 Crotta will play Kenmare / Kilgarvan in a playoff tie at Dromakee. The winners meet Ballyduff and Ballyheigu­e play Abbeydorne­y in the semi-finals on Thursday, May 10. The Final is fixed for Sunday, May 13.

In Division 2, the first semi-final was played last Thursday and resulted in a win for Lixnaw over Kilmoyley, 5-11 to 1-5.

The second semi-final between St Brendans v Tralee Parnells is fixed for Ardfert on Thursday, May 3 with the final on Thursday, May 10. All these games have 7pm throw-in times.
