COUNTY LEAGUE: Division 4 (round 3): Cromane 0-10, Fossa 2-16

Our seniors endured a tough trip to Fossa on Saturday evening as they ended up on the wrong side of a 12-point defeat. It was always going to be a tough ask as we were missing our mainstays, Donnchadh Walsh and Sean O’Sullivan. Despite the loss of their energy and influence we were competitive in the first half and trailed by 2-5 to 0-7 at the break. However, as we went chasing the game - gaps appeared in the second half which Fossa comfortably won by 0-11 to 0-3 to close out a convincing win. Our seniors now have an opportunity to reset and regroup as our next competitive game is again in the county league. We play Tarbert at home in round 4 which is currently scheduled for Sunday, May 13. Still, there’s a lot of football to play for and given our departure from the junior championship at the group stage we can fully focus on the county league. Scorers - Cromane: Paul Patrick O’Sullivan 0-4 (0-3 frees), Darren Houlihan 0-2 (0-1 free), Shane O’Neill, Micheál Shaughnessy, Finbar Casey, and Mikey Houlihan 0-1. Cromane team: Paudie McCarthy; Cathal Crosby, John Michael Foley, Stephen Foley; Finbar Casey, Conor Sugrue, Ethan Griffin; Emmet Casey, Darren Houlihan; Shane Ahern, Micheál Shaughnessy, Liam Teahan; Paul Patrick O’Sullivan, Shane O’Neill, Mikey Houlihan. Subs: Sean Teahan for Paul Patrick O’Sullivan, Eamon O’Connor for S Foley, Brice Dourieu for S Ahern, Cian O’Keeffe for M Shaughnessy, Paudie McMahon.

MINOR COUNTY LEAGUE: Division 3B (round 5) - The Glenbeigh-Glencar/ Cromane minors received a walkover from Ballymac who conceded the round 5 game that was due to be played last Friday evening in Lyreacrompane. This means that the minors will play a county league semi-final but the identity of our opponents will not be known until the outcome of a back game between Glenflesk and Ardfert. UNDER-12 COUNTY LEAGUE: Division 8 (round 2)

Cromane 0-10, Tarbert 5-22

After two wins in their first two games the Cromane under-12 squad made another trek to north Kerry last Sunday evening to play Tarbert. Unfortunately, this one wasn’t as successful as we suffered our first loss of the year. A fortnight earlier our under-12s had made the trip to Ballybunion, and came away with a 5-11 to 2-11 win. They followed up that win with another fine performance in Cromane last week beating Finuge by 5-17 to 2-6. Next up for our under-12s is a third away game in four rounds when they play Ballymac ‘B’ in Ballymacelligott next Sunday. Throw-in is currently set for 6pm. Our under-12 panel of players included: Alex Scannell, Saoirse Harkin, Sian Corkery, Sadhbh Casey, Ben Sugrue, Liam Hayes, John Horgan, Conor Hayes, Jack McGrath, Jamie Casey, Sean Keane, Cormac Riordan, Mikey Griffin, and Ryan O’Connor. TRAINING: Underage training (under-6s to under-10s) is back up and running at the field on Sunday mornings. We aim to get started each Sunday at 11.15am. Come along to have some craic with friends on a Sunday morning as your child makes new friends while learning and improving their basics skills of Gaelic football.

Our underage group of coaches are extremely dedicated and provide an excellent platform for your child to improve as a player. There’s also the simple joys of mixing with other children, an important aspect of our underage training as they build team spirit. An Cromán Abú! UNDER-8 JERSEYS: Many thanks to Tony O’Sullivan, of Cromane Oysters, who presented our under-8s with new jerseys last Sunday morning at our underage training session. Thanks, Tony. DR CROKES

COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 1 - ROUND 3 Played in Dingle on Saturday 21st of April Dingle 0-7 Dr Crokes 2-12 Aided by the strong wind we got off to a good start with two points in the first five minutes. Dingle had a point in the 7th minute and that was their only score of the first half. They did have plenty of play in this thirty minutes but squandered many chances. We went on to have goals in the 9th and 13th minute and added on five points as well for a half time lead of 2-7 to 0-1.

The second half was much more competitive. Aided by the breeze our opponents outscored us 0-6 to 0-5 in this thirty minutes but they never got near enough to us on the scoreboard to make life uncomfortable for us.

Both teams were missing a number of players so you could not say it was a dress rehearsal for next Sundays Club Final. At least half a dozen of our under 21s got game time during the match and this will stand them in a goods stead for the Senior County Championship. A very pleasant statistic was that our under 21 players and subs contributed 2-10 from play between them, many of the scores from assists from Colm Cooper who scored the other two points. Team and Scorers: Johnny O’Leary, Brian Fitzgerald, Mike Moloney, David Naughton, David O’Leary, Jason Lyne, Shane Doolan, Eoin Brosnan, Alan O’Sullivan, Paul Clarke 0-1, Gavin O’Shea, Michael Potts 0-3, Colm Cooper 0-2, David Shaw 1-2, Mark O’Shea 1-1. Subs: Jack Griffin 0-2, Kieran Ward, Billy Courtney, Mike Casey 0-1 DEVELOPMENT FUND Dr Crokes Club are embarking on a fundraising initiative to help upgrade the current facilities of our grounds as it has been 12 years since serious work has been carried out. There are fantastic prizes to be won with the first prize a Nissan Pulsar Executive Class Car and second prize is a four night stay for two people in New York including flights. We have 10 prizes in total and the draw will take place on December 2. Tickets are €10 each or a book of 6 for €50. There will be an additional draw of €1000 for those who purchase a full book for €50. Tickets can be purchased in the Tatler Jack, Club members or Kerry Shop in Killarney Outlet Centre. KILCUMMIN

CREDIT UNION CO LEAGUE: Kilcummin 0-11 Dromid Pearses 1-16. At home last Saturday night we encountered a far livelier, stronger and determined Dromid team who out played us for the greater part of the game. Despite the return of some previously absent players we never got to the pitch of the game and Dromid well deserved their eight points victory. Padraigh Nagle and Matt Keane scored 0-2 each, Philip Casey 0-1 and Noel Duggan 0-6 ( 4 F ) were our scorers on the night. KILLARNEY LEGION

CO.LEAGUE: Bright sunshine earlier in the day gave way to wet and windy conditions for the seniors first trip to Con Keating Park in many a day.Playing with the wind in the first it took the game a while to get going as Bryan Sheahan and Jamie O Sullivan were to the fore for their respective sides and when the whistle went at half time for the break the sides were locked at 4 points each. Playing against the elements in this half it could be argued that we held the upper hand and the evidence of that could be seen when Billy Maguire kicked us into the lead with 10 minutes to go. However straight from the kick out St Mary’s went down field to score a slightly fortuitous goal and at games end that was the match winner. Unlike previous weeks the front six certainly created more chances but a costly tally of 8 second half wides tells its own story.

Despite the loss there are positives to be picked out of that battling second half performance. The competition takes a 3 week break now for Club Championship action so our next outing is at home to Kerins O Rahillys on the weekend of May 12/13th.

Final score Killarney Legion 0-8 St Mary’s 1-8

MINOR CO. LEAGUE: Killarney Legion 3-13 Kilgarvan /Tuosist 2-12A deserved win for the minors as they turned in an all round team performance in Derreen. The first half saw the sides evenly matched and couldn’t be separated at the break 2-4 to 1-7. The second half saw the Legion side grow in confidence and a steady supply of good ball led to a healthy return on the scoreboard. Despite a substantial number out of the panel for various reasons the team showed great drive and were well led by Jack Hanrahan, Jack Corridan ,Conor Lucey and 16 year old Eoin O Sullivan who was excellent at midfield. Results haven’t gone the way of this team mainly due to the aforementioned absence of a good number of players but there is huge potential in this group when all are fit and ready. SCÓRA las no joy for Áine Devlin in the county final but great credit to her as she showed her talent by making it three East Kerry titles in a row ,no doubt we’ll hear more of her in the future. The quiz team also performed excellently - a discipline the club has had a very successful record in down the years.

ALL IRELAND JUNIOR SCHOOLS FINAL: Commiserations to the St.B rigids girls who represented the town and their school so well all year but fell short at the final hurdle. The Legion had a major input into the squad with Paudie Breen co-managing the side.No fewer than eleven Legion girls were involved testimony to how vibrant and successful the Ladies section has become. Next week’s Lotto Jackpot will be €6,200. SENIOR: Points were shared between Laune Rangers and St Senans following a hot tempered encounter in JP O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin on Saturday evening. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-13, St Senans 2-10. Having played the final 10 minutes with 14 men, a draw was ultimately well earned. The visitors had two excellent midfielders in Damien Somers and Barry O’Mahony -- the latter a 2017 All Ireland Minor winner -- so it was a baptism of fire for Darragh O’Sullivan who stood up to the challenge, as did his centre-field partner Shane Daly. Best for the visitors on the day was Sean O’Connell scored all bar four of his sides scores.

For Rangers, John Tyther was excellent and scored three great points for the home side on the day.

MILLTOWN CASTLEMAINE

UNDER 14 WHITE TEAM: Lee Strand U-14 County Football League Division 3B

It was a beautiful evening in JP O’ Sullivan Park in Killorglin for our U14’s white team game against Laune Rangers last Thursday. It ended with a score line of Milltown/Castlemaine 3-05 to Laune Rangers 3-09.

The first half brought some excellent saves from Jerry McCarthy and some hard working performances from Liam Cronin and John Kerrisk that kept Milltown/Castlemaine in the game. Milltown/Castlemaine came out strong in the 2nd half -a strong performance from Daire McCarthy in midfield led to him scoring 1-02. This along with some excellent defending from Eoghan Daly kept us well in the game. Cian O Brien also put in a great performance scoring 1-01 & there was great support from our forwards Cian O Connor and Charlie McGillicuddy. Well done to both teams on a well contested game, next up for our Under 14 White Team is a home game against Kerins O’Rahillys this Wednesday.

UNDER 14 GREEN TEAM: Lee Strand U-14 County Football League Division 3 A- Friday 20th of April Milltown Castlemaine 5.11 Na Gaeil 2.07 An impressive second half performance ensured that our U-14’s added the two points on offer. Na Gaeil with the aid of the wind were on top in the first half. We had our chances but the Na Gaeil goalkeeper made three fantastic stops. We were having trouble dealing with the link play between Na Gaeil’s midfielders, centre forward and full forward. This interplay led to a fantastic goal by the Na Gaeil centre forward. Ben Downes and Shane O’Connor were leading the rear guard to ensure that we kept in touch. At the short whistle, Na Gaeil led 2.06 to 1.03.

Within two minutes of the start of the second half Anthony Barrett hit the back of the net to give our boys the impetus to storm back into the game. There appeared to be an added spring in our step in the second half. There was some outstanding foot passing and support running with Brendan Casey linking all that was good in the game. Brendan was aided and abetted in the half forward line by the hard working Oisin Spring and Riain Foley. Shane O’Connor had moved to centre back and gave a commanding defensive display with some outstanding fielding. There were some impressive scores taken in this half with Liam Roche scoring 3 fantastic points from play and all angles. Our defence was impressive only conceding 1 point to leave the final score Milltown Castlemaine 5.11 Na Gaeil 2.07(Reports by Danny McClure)

Next up is Knocknagoshel/Brosna/ Duagh on Wednesday 25th at 7. QUIZ: A huge congratulations to our quiz team for their tremendous performance at the County Final on Sunday last in ISK.

PIARSAIGH NA DROMADA

COMHGHAIRDEAS to the Rince Foirne and Seit on their wins in Scór na bPáistí County Final held in Foilmore on Sunday.

Division 2 County League: Piarsaigh na Dromada 1-16 Kilcummin 0-11 Piarsaigh na Dromada recorded their first win of the County League away to Kilcummin on Saturday 21st April. Played in ideal conditions for football, Dromid were quicker to settle into the game and points from Chris Farley (4) and Gearoid O Sullivan saw Dromid open up a 2 point lead after 15 minutes of the game, 5 points to 3. The key moment of the first half came when Niall O Shea burst through the Kilcummin defence and buried the ball into the back of net, leaving the keeper with no chance. Further points from Farley, O Shea and Aidan Shine O Sullivan saw Dromid lead at half time on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-05. The second half was a much tighter affair as both teams struggled to break down the oppositions defence. Farley again registered the opening score of the second half with a free from 40 metres. Noel Duggan cancelled this out with a free of his own from 20 metres. Points from Farley, O Shea and Shane O Connor kept Kilcummin at arms length and although Kilcummin tried desperately to engineer a goal, there was no way through a dogged and determined Dromid Defence. Duggan registered the last 2 points of the game for Kilcummin as Dromid went on to win on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-11. Dromid will be very pleased with their overall team performance and can look forward to the next round of the County League against Kenmare on the weekend of the 13th May. The team was as follows; Brian O Leary, Cian O Shea, Graham O Sullivan, Shane O Connor, Donal M O Sullivan, Kevin O Leary, Padraig O Sullivan, Aidan Shine O Sullivan, Niall O Connor, Kevin Sheehan, Niall O Shea, Kealan Farley, Gearoid O Sullivan, Chris Farley, Micheal Sheehan. Subs: John GG O Shea, Denis Shine O Sullivan, Donal Jer O Sullivan."

COISTE NA NOG: U-12 Boys Co League commenced with an away trip to windswept Ardfert and due to the very windy conditions it was a tale of two halves. Our first team came in at half time 8 points behind having played against the wind in the first half. Our second team finished the first half leading by 3-3. However, following the resumption of the second half and buoyed by a strong wind, our first team managed to overcome the deficit to win by a comfortable margin, whilst our second team struggled against a strong fight back from Ardfert and lost by a similar margin.
