WATER SUPPLY. ISSUE

CALL FOR IRISH WATER TO ADDRESS MID- KERRY REGIONAL WATER SUPPLY. Councillor Michael Cahill moved a motion at this week’s meeting of Kerry County Council calling on Irish Water to address for once and for all the on-going unacceptable disruptions to the Mid-Kerry Regional Water Supply. The Fianna Fail Councillor’s call coincided with outages over the weekend and again on Monday in Beaufort, Fossa, Listry, Faha, Barlymount, Aghadoe, Firies and Milltown. Speaking at the Monthly Meeting of Kerry County Council, Councillor Cahill said the Mid-Kerry Regional Water Supply was one of the most problematic in the country and that this had been acknowledged by Senior Management in Irish Water. The Rossbeigh Councillor said the Water breaks to the pipe network on the Bord of Work’s Road Beaufort has meant that thousands of households have been left without water.

This has been an ongoing nightmare for thousands of households throughout Mid-Kerry for many years. Farmers and businesses have been left in limbo. I have been contacted by B&B and Guesthouse Operators who were not able to make a cup of tea or flush toilets.

Parents are also very annoyed as they have not been able to wash young children. Councillor Cahill described all the ongoing outages as " absolutely outrageous in this day and age" and said the residents of Mid-Kerry have been to "hell and back; in regards to the matter. It is estimated that it would cost in the region of E40 million to replace the ageing pipe network in Mid-Kerry. E3 million has been invested in replacing some sections of the network since 2017
