- By SINEAD KELLEHER

NEW modelling careers could in the pipeline for some of the first time models that took to the catwalk at the Kilcummin National School designer showcase last week including for local parish priest, Fr Eamon Mulvihill.

Fr Mulvihill swapped his everyday priest attire to take to the catwalk in the latest designs to support the fashion extravaganza.

He was joined by many of the children from Kilcummin National school, who also made their debut on the catwalk, at the fashion show at the Great Southern Hotel last Thursday.

TD Michael Healy Rae also took time out from his career to take to the catwalk as did teacher Mike Murphy. They were joined by former Kerry footballer Brendan Kealy and Sean O’Leary of Kilcummin GAA club.

These amateur models were joined by professional models from the Norma O’Donoghue Modelling Agency, for the designer showcase, which presented the latest collections from a host of boutiques and well known designers.

The latest collections from designers including Tina Griffin, Marion Murphy Cooney, Claire Garvey, Cathy Troth, Rebekah Wall, Hazel Comyn, Mary Brosnan and Carol Kennelly were all showcased.

Their designs joined the latest collections from Killarney boutiques Scarlett and MacBees, Jasmine Boutique in Tralee, Cork boutiques Silk Peaches, Serenity, and Phoenix V and Virgina Bridal boutique in Limerick.

Off the catwalk the fashion was equally as good and the best dressed lady for the occasion was Kathleen Ryan.

The organising committee are thrilled with the turn-out to the event which was organised to raise funds for the school hall and are grateful for the support they received.

“This fundraiser will help us on our way to flooring our full size basketball court in our new hall at Kilcummin NS. This was an outstanding community effort as we are all working together to complete this invaluable asset in our community. It is a project that we are committed to on behalf of our pupils and the next generation of children, that will attend our national school at Kilcummin,” said principal Gillian Sheehan.

Kilcummin CCÉ, the Aine Murphy Dance Academy, and Adrian, Mary and John of the Moriarty Dancing school provided entertainment.

Kilcummin NS pupil Caoimhe O’ Halloran also performed on the night, following her great win (5th) in the World Championships while DJ Gavin O Leary completed the entertainment line-up providing music into the early hours of the morning.
