1. CYCLISTS GEAR UP FOR ANNUAL ARDFERT CYCLE

THE annual Ardfert Harvest Cycle - which is a fundraiser for Ardfert NS - will take place this coming Sunday, April 29.

The hugely popular cycle has become a staple of the sporting calendar here in Kerry and serves as a great training run for the upcoming Ring of Kerry cycle in July.

There are two routes available on the day - a leisurely 32km route and a more challengin­g 70km route; registrati­on is available on the morning.

2. REGISTER FOR DARKNESS INTO LIGHT

REGISTRATI­ONS are now open for the Kerry ‘Darkness Into Light’ walks which takes places at 4:15am on Saturday May 12.

Registrati­on is available from the Darkness into Light website.

3. LISTOWEL PARKRUN’S FIRST BIRTHDAY

LISTOWEL parkrun will celebrate their first birthday this weekend and all runners are invited to celebrate the day on Saturday April 28.

There will be a bonus gathering afterwards in the Listowel Community Centre for cake and coffee.

4. OSTEOPOROS­IS TALK IN THE ROSE HOTEL

THE reschedule­d Osteoporos­is and BOne Health talk will take place this coming Friday April 27 at 7pm in the Rose Hotel.

Speakers on the night will include Professor Moira O’Brien (Osteoporos­is and Sports Medicine Consultant), Michelle O’Brien (CEO of the Irish Osteoporos­is Society) and Sheila King (Registered Dietician).

Entry will cost €5 on the night.

5. TEDDY BEAR HOSPITAL IN BON SECOURS

AN event that is sure to have the little ones all excited this weekend is the ‘Teddy Bear Hospital’ which is running in the Bon Secours hospital in Tralee on Sunday April 28.

Suitable for children from the ages of 4-10,this is a great way for them to learn all about the work of hospitals in a a safe and fun way; there will be two sessions taking place on the day - from 10am to 12pm and again from 2pm to 4pm.

6. CHARITY BINGO NIGHT IN AID OF AUTISM UNIT

A CHARITY bingo night in aid of the Autism Unit in St Josephs Ns in Castlemain­e will take place on Strand Road in Tralee this weekend.

The fundraisin­g event, which will run from 2:30pm onwards on Sunday April 28, is open to everyone, with organisers encouragin­g as many people as possible to come and support the event.

7. SHANE FINN’S FILM TO PREMIERE IN DINGLE

THE premiere of Shane Finn’s documentar­y ‘Pushing Limits’ will show in Dingle this Friday, April 27.

The documentar­y chronicles Shane’s 24 marathons in 24 days and will premiere in the Phoenix Cinema in Dingle at 7pm on the night.

8. ‘THE OTHERSIDE’ CHAT SHOW IN LISTOWEL

FAMED for its music and its comedy, ‘Mike The Pies’ bar in Listowel will hold a different night of entertainm­ent next week - as ‘The OtherSide’ talk show rolls into town.

The latest show will take place on the night of Thursday April 26 at 8:30pm sharp; guests on the night include Jon Kenny, Dara Ó’ Connéide, West Kerry’s own multi-instrument­alist and singer Aoife Granville, Kerry musician Cathal Flaherty and comedian Danny Ryan.

Admission on the night is free - you can book your tickets by messaging ‘Mike the Pies’ on Facebook.

9. BOOK YOUR PLACES FOR THE TARBERT RUN

THERE’S still time to book your place for the upcoming Tarbert Run.

The run will be in aid of the Kerry/Cork Health Link Bus and there will be 10 miler, 10k and 5k options available on the day.

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends?

There are four parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel and the Tralee Junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old. People can register and print off their barcode at parkrun.ie.

Don’t miss out on this great morning run - it is the perfect way to start off your weekend - well, that’s if the weather holds up its end of the deal!
