20 Tralee bars in ‘Ask for Angela’ safety campaign

-

A total of 20 Tralee pubs have now signed up to take part in the ‘Ash For Angela’ safety campaign.

The idea of the initiative is that should anyone feel they are in danger while on a night out they can seek help by using the code phrase and asking for Angela.

Staff will immediately know something isn’t right and can then take action to help the customer by discretely removing them from the situation.

Since it was introduced in Tralee on April 6, 20 pubs have already signed up to the initiative and each premises has provided training to staff to help anyone who may need to Ask For Angela. Tralee is now well on the way to achieving the goal of being the first town in Ireland to roll-out the Ask For Angela Campaign across an entire town.

“The owners and managers of licensed premises in Tralee have now committed to train their staff and to place ‘Ask For Angela’ posters throughout their bars to raise awareness of the campaign among their customers,” said Tralee Chamber Alliance Managing Consultant Ken Tobin.

“A total of 20 bars, covering all of Tralee’s streets, are now on board in the interest of public safety and enhancing the fact that Tralee has a safe, vibrant and well-managed night time economy. Thousands of people have watched the information video on Facebook and the coverage from all local media outlets has played a major role in raising awareness of the ‘Ask For Angela’ initiative,” said Mr Tobin.
