The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Ballybeggan Racecourse ~ Sunday, May 13
THE Kingdom County Fair which takes place at Tralee Racecourse on Sunday May 13th is in its 70th year. The Show has stood the test of time by evolving from initially being an agricultural and industrial show to an event which has retained its roots but now has added live bands and an extensive entertainment programme.
The core of the Show is competition and this year’s show has over 290 competitive classes competing for over 30,000 euros in prizemoney. These classes include 30 for horses, 43 for ponies, 52 for cattle, 35 for sheep, 6 for goats, 30 for country crafts, 27 for homecrafts, 27 for horticulture, 12 for poultry and 12 for dogs. Other animal attractions are a donkey derby and a series of pig races, where pigs will carry the colours of local sponsors.
Showjumping has 20 competitions with the main event carrying a prize fund of €2,000. This will attract the top showjumpers in the country.
The industrial section has an extensive outdoor display of trade stands as well as two indoor halls with something for everyone and lots of bargains!
The bonny baby show is still hugely popular and entries will be taken on the day. A dog and pet show with 12 classes will take place and includes a qualifier for the Munster dog championship, which has a prize fund of top euros.
Live bands, amusements and face painting will form part of an action packed fun-filled day.
