Another county league win for Dr Crokes ‘B’ team
AHEAD of the resumption of the County League in full this weekend, Castleisland Desmonds returned to the top of the table and held onto their 100% start with a six point victory at home to Ardfert that had a lot to do with hold the St Brendans side to a solitary point in the first period. Desmonds scored 1-7 themselves as they had a nine point lead and the break and although Ardfert were much more competitive in the second period in scoring three goals, the hosts had done enough in the first-half to secure a 2-16 to 3-7 win.
Desmonds have a derby this weekend away to Currow while Ardfert are at home to newly crowned Intermediate Champions Kilcummin.
In Division Three, meanwhile, three second-half goals by Dr Crokes B gave them a 4-12 to 0-13 win over St Pats Blennerville in Lewis Road on Saturday having led by 1-7 to 0-5. The Killarney side join Brosna in a share of second place at present as they face fellow East Kerry opposition this Sunday in the form of Listry away. St Pats have a bit of everything in a win, loss and a draw in their three games so far as they play Keel in Round Four this weekend.
In Division Four Castlegregory and Tarbert played out another interesting encounter after the West Kerry side got the better of the same opposition in a Junior Club Championship encounter last month.
Both sides shared four goals in the opening period as Castle led by 2-8 to 2-7 as even though the scored dried up somewhat in the second period, the West Kerry side went on to win by 2-15 to 2-10 as they go into a share of the lead in the table with Gneeveguilla on five points each. Tarbert face the latter in Round Four this weekend while Castle host Firies.
In Division Five meanwhile both Churchill and Ballyduff returned from impressive Club Championships campaigns with wins that put them into a share of the lead in Group A and Group B respectively. Churchill joined started in keeping up a 10% start as they had a 3-9 to 1-7 win over Kerins O’Rahillys B. The Tralee side had actually led at half-time by 1-4 to 0-5 thanks to a Tom Hoare goal before three second-half goals from a Ger McCarthy brace (one of which was a penalty) and a Liam O’Donnell effort made it a 3-9 to 1-7 win in the end for the St Brendans side.
Churchill travel to Knocknagoshel this weekend while O’Rahillys host Asdee.
Ballyduff got the better of Moyvane for the second time in three weeks as they followed up a Junior Club Championship Group win with a League win by 0-9 to 0-6. Barry O’Grady and John Paul Leahy points near the end were crucial to their win as they end Moyvane 100% start in joining them in a share of the lead alongside Sneem/ Derrynane and Duagh.
This weekend Ballyduff host the South Kerry side and Duagh entertain Moyvane.
