KILGARVAN SCHOOL SOCCER WIN

Congratula­tions to Kilgarvan Central School’s Girls Soccer team who won the Kerry County Final of the Spar Primary School 5s Programme in Tralee on Wednesday April 25th 2018. The team is as follows, Orla O’Brien, Laura Scanlon, Saoirse Buckley, Tara Desmond, Molly Foley, Helena O’ Donoghue and Alex McCarthy. The girls will now go on to represent Kerry in the Munster Final. Well done girls.

FUNDRAISER

A fundraiser was held recently in O’Reillys Bar Kilgarvan, for Palliative Care at the Mangerton Suite in Kenmare Community Hospital. Over €2,840 was raised. The money will go towards vital equipment.

MEMORIAL TRACTOR RUN

Congratula­tions to Joe Newman, Ballydehob, member of the Leap and District Vintage Club who was presented with the Perpetual Trophy at the Jackie Healy Rae Memorial Tractor Run which was held Sunday 29th April 2018, he was driving a David Brown Tractor. 65 tractors took part in the run. The event was organized by the Roughty Valley Vintage Club with proceeds going to Kilgarvan Community Council whose achievemen­ts include securing the old school which is now the Community Centre and who are very involved in the Rockmount Care Centre Kilgarvan which is a major employer in the parish. The Community Centre is open to all affiliated clubs. Hopefully the proceeds will help the Community Centre with such things as public liability, a major cost which was €1,250 this year and also heating, electricit­y and general upkeep.

Roughty Valley Vintage Club would like to thank the owners for giving them the use of their land and Dawn and James Hegarty for supplying the food.

ATHLETICS

The Kerry Colleges track and field Championsh­ips was held in An Riocht Athletics Track Castleisla­nd, on Tuesday May 1st 2018. Rhona Randles was an impressive winner of Kerry Colleges Intermedia­te 800m Championsh­ip. Rhona’s team mate Alyce O’Connor placed 2nd. Rhonas School Pobal Scoil Inbhear Scéine, Kenmare athletes won seven medals. One gold (Rhona Randles intermedia­te girls 800m), three silver medals (Alyce O’Connor intermedia­te girls 800m), (Katy Palmer intermedia­te Long Jump), (Eleanor Dennison intermedia­te Long Jump) and three bronze Medals (Gary Randles intermedia­te Shot Putt) (Liam Palmer minor boys 1500m) and (Eabhá De Faoite Minor girls Long Jump). Michael O’Reilly placed 4th in the boys intermedia­te 3000m run. Disappoint­ingly Pobal Scoil Inbhear Scéine, Kenmare did not have any teams taking part in the eight relay. The South Munster Schools Track and Field Championsh­ips girls and boys take place on Wednesday May 9th and 10th respective­ly at CIT Cork.

DEATH

Diarmaid O’Donoghue, Sunville, Kilgarvan, and formally of Incheese, Kilgarvan, passed away on 2nd May 2018. Diarmaid’s Requiem Mass took place on Saturday 5th May at 10:00am in St Patrick’s Church Kilgarvan, with Burial afterwards in the Local Cemetery. To his wife Kathleen, daughter Siobhán, son John, sister Joan and extended family we express our deepest sympathy.

WEDDING

Congratula­tions to Louise, daughter of Donal and Cathy Twomey, 3 Kilgarvan west, Kilgarvan, and Padraig, son of Flor and Maureen McCarthy, Dawros, Tuosist, Co Kerry who were married at St Patricks Church Kilgarvan on Saturday 5th May 2018. Father Kevin O’Sullivan officiated at the ceremony. Bridesmaid­s were Mairead Daly, Danielle Twomey, Alanna McCarthy, Louise Curtin, Nesa O’Connor. Groomsmen were Florence McCarthy, Daniel McCarthy, Adrian Duynn, Ciaran Twomey, Xiao Ma. The Reception was held at the Great Southern Hotel Killarney.

CAR BOOT SALE

There will a car boot sale at the Hidden Valley Pet Farm Darrinacul­lig, Kilgarvan, on Sunday 13th May 2018 starting at 11:00am. €5 per car and €2 per person. Knock: The Kilgarvan Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday 20th May 2018. The bus leaves Healy Rae Mace Shop at 6:15am. Adults €20 children €10. COLLECTION

The Tidy Towns annual church gate collection will take place on the weekend of 9th and 10th June 2018. Your support is greatly appreciate­d.

Kilgarvan Tidy Towns are holding a Pub Quiz on Friday 29th June 2018 at 9:00pm in all the pubs in the Village. €10 per person for a table of 4. More details to follow.

TIDY TOWNS

Kilgarvan Tidy Towns weekly clean up and work in the village continues each Wednesday. Meeting at the Mace Shop at 7:00pm. All are welcome to come along and help.

KILLORGLIN PARKINSON’S GROUP

A group to support and help all those dealing with Parkinson’s Disease will meet on Monday 14th May at the Plaza Hotel, Killarney at 7pm. All are welcome to come along, particular­ly new members, so please do join us.
