A Launch of CD by Kathleen O’Sullivan The Upper Deck on Saturday May 19th in Kerry Coast Inn in aid of Cunamh Iveragh and Iveragh Mental Health. Music by Eddie Lee and Paddy Casey. Doors open at 8.30pm. Everyone welcome and a great night assured.

SCARTAGLEN RAMBLING HOUSE

The next rambling house get together at the Heritage Centre in Scartaglin will be on Monday evening next May 14th with a starting time of 9pm. As always admission is free with a raffle and refreshmen­ts on the night. All are welcome.

CREATIVE WRITING

Kerry County Council in associatio­n with Kerry Libraries and co-funded by the Arts Council is bringing workshops in creative writing, visual arts and felt work to libraries around Kerry. These workshops are run by highly skilled profession­al artists and will provide great learning opportunit­ies to people over 55 who are interested in expressing themselves creatively. Kerry County Council writer in residence Anne Marie Ní Churreain will give a creative writing workshop in Castleisla­nd library on Tuesday May 15th commencing at 11am.

AFTERNOON OF PRAYER

Denis O’Leary will be present at an afternoon of prayer in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Scartaglin on Sunday May 20th which will commence as usual with the Rosary at 2.30pm and all are welcome.

Congratula­tions to the boys and girls from the Scartaglin area who were confirmed at a confirmati­on ceremony by Bishop of Kerry Ray Browne at Castleisla­nd Parish Church recently. TEA DANCE

Sliabh Luachra Active Retired Network will hold the May Tea Dance on Sunday next May 13th 2018 in Ballymacel­ligott Community Centre hosted by Ballymacel­ligott Active Retired. The usual buses available contact your club. Starting at 2.30pm . There will be music and songs and tea will be served.

ALL IRELAND ROSARY RALLY

The All Ireland Rosary Rally will take place at Knock Shrine on Saturday June 2. The schedule is as follows: 2pm Stations of the Cross and Holy Rosary Outdoors ; 3pm Holy Mass, main celebrant Most. Rev. Bishop Kevin Doran ; Homillist Fr. John Walsh OP ; After Homily Consecrati­on to the Immaculate Heart of Mary ; After Holy Communion Prayer to Our Lady of All Nations ; 4pm Eucharist Healing blessing of the sick. Music by Fr. FIRST COMMUNION

On this Saturday May 12th children from Scartaglen N.S. will receive their First Holy Communion at a mass celebrated in the local church at 11am. This will be a very special, happy and enjoyable occasion for all the children and their parents. We wish all a most enjoyable day.

GAA NEWS

Scartaglin are top of the County League Div 5 A table with 6 points having played three games and winning all three. This is a very good start for the local team in their county league campaign and should give them much confidence for the remainder of the games in this group. In the East Kerry Board 2018 competitio­ns Scartaglin or Spa will play Rathmore in the East Kerry Senior Championsh­ip i.e. O’Donoghue Cup. Scartaglin will play Fossa in the Intermedia­te Championsh­ip (Fr Galvin Cup) and Dr Crokes will play Scartaglin in the junior Championsh­ip for the Owen O’Sullivan Cup.

FEILE CHEOIL EXHIBITION

Friday May 18 will be a special occasion for the village of Scartaglin, as part of the World Fiddle Day Festival a special evening will be held in the Heritage Centre Scartaglin with free admission and we hope there is a large local turnout as there are many events relating to the parish featured . Scartaglin born poet Eileen Sheehan from Gortglass will launch her new book of poetry called “The Narrow book of Souls “A special exhibition of Media and photos relating to the Scartaglin Feile Cheoil 1967 to 2001 will be on view and and special guests Michael and Paddy Casey will unveil two surprises which have not been seen in the Village for decades . Mary O Connor Gortglass former committee member is busy rounding up all former Feile Cheoil committee members and helpers to attend and Catriona O Connor is looking after teas and snacks Hosted by Tomás MacUileago­id .Special Guests include Matt Cranitch and Jackie Daly , Singer Dave Buckley , John Brosnan and Mary Conroy. Sessions after in the 3 pubs with Dave Buckley hosting a singsong in Fleming’s at 10 pm.

GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglen GAA Clubs latest draw took place on Sunday night last when the jackpot of E3,200 was not won. Numbers drawn were: 2, 4, 16, 18. Consolatio­n prizewinne­rs from the Lucky Dip were as follows: E40 Sofia Brosnan, Scartaglen ; E30 John Paul Fleming, Currow ; Kay Griffin ; E20 Peggy O Donoghue, Gneevaguil­la ; Peter Lordan, Castleisla­nd ; Martin Griffin. Next draw will take place in Flemings Bar on May 27th when the jackpot will be E3,400.
