1. KERRY TO HOLD ‘DARKNESS INTO LIGHT’ WALKS

KERRY will once again shine a light on mental health this weekend as it hosts a number of ‘Darkness Into Light’ walks, all in aid of Pieta House.

The walks, which will start at 4:15am on Saturday May 12, are taking place in Caherdaniel, Cahersiveen, Dingle, Glenbeigh, Kenmare, Killarney, Listowel and Tralee.

2. REMEMBERING ZOE CYCLE TAKING PLACE ON SUNDAY

THE annual ‘Remembering Zoe’ charity cycle in association with Abbeyfeale Cycling Club will take place this coming Sunday May 13.

The cycle will start at 9am from the Fr Casey GAA club in Abbeyfeale; registration for the cycle will be available from 7:30am onwards on the morning and there will be 50km, 85km and 120km routes available.

3. COMMUNITY AWARDS TO BE HELD IN KILLARNEY

THE Kerry Community Awards, an annual awards ceremony which celebrates the work and efforts of local groups all around the county, will be held again this week.

The 2018 ceremony will be held in the Dromhall Hotel on the night of Thursday May 10 with all nominated groups hoping to come away with prizes on the night.

4. FAMILY FUN DAY FOR SERA HUSKEY CHARITY

A FAMILY fun day in aid of the Sera Huskey and Animal Rescue Centre charity will be held this Sunday May 13 at the Sera Huskey centre in Lisselton.

Apart from having the chance to meet and interact with all of the animals on the day, there will be plenty of other entertainment as well including a BBQ, a bouncy castle, basketball rings, hook a duck games, candy floss and an ice cream van.

5. ‘SILENCE IS GOLDEN’ TRALEE PREMIERE

A LOCALLY made film which is shining a light on the horrors and realities of domestic abuse, will have its Tralee premiere in the Ballyroe Heights Hotel this Friday night, May 11.

‘Silence is Golden’, which was filmed locally and which featured all local actors, will tell the tale of dramatisations of four real-life actual abusive events and will be 15-20 minutes in length.

The film will premiere this Friday night at 8pm and tickets will be available to buy on the door for €15.

6. TRALEE PREPS FOR COUNTY FAIR

IT’S that time of the year again as the Tralee racecourse prepares to hold the anual Kingdom County Fair on Sunday May 13.

The festival, which is famous for highlighting vintage machinery, animals, dog shows and family fun activities, will start on Sunday morning and always draws a great crowdeveryyear.

7. DAY OF MUSIC IN MEMORY OF DONAL WALSH

A NUMBER of local musicians are coming together this coming Saturday to honour the memory of Tralee teenager Dónal Walsh on the fifth anniversary of his death.

Close to 30 musicians will bespread around The Mall and The Square and will be playing music during Saturday afternoon from 12 noon to around 5pm.

8. GET YOUR TICKETS TO FINBAR FUREY IN INEC

FINBAR Furey will be performing in the INEC later this month and there are still tickets left available to buy for what will be a great night of music Killarney.

The popular musician will perform on the night of Thursday May 24 at 8:30pm and tickets are €30.

9. COFFEE MORNING IN AID OF KERRY MENTAL HEALTH

THE annual coffee morning, plant and cake sale in aid of the East Kerry Mental Health Association wll take place in the Teach Mhuire Day Care Centre in Rathmore on Wednesday, May 9 from 10am to 12:30am.

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends?

There are four parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel and the Tralee Junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old. People can register and print off their barcode at parkrun.ie.
