Annascaul move clear of chasing pack

DIVISION THREE

BELYING a meeting between the two sides last week in a relegation play-off Annascaul quickly avenged their loss to Ballydonoghue in the Premier Junior relegation play-off to keep their 100% record at the top of Division Three after four games. The West Kerry side led by 1-5 to 1-4 at half-time thanks to an Alan Falvey goal but they overcame the concession of a second goal to the North Kerry side in the second period to win out by 1-13 to 2-5 as they have a clear three point lead over the other sides in the table for now.

Incredibly the next five teams in the table all have five points registered as St Senans, Dr Crokes B, Brosna, Waterville and St Pats/ Blennerville all share second after Round Four. Senans put four goals past Finuge in a big 4-11 to 0-13 victory. Sean T Dillon and Jason Browne scored their first-half goals in a 2-8 to 0-7 interval lead despite Ricky Heffernan’s best scoring efforts for Finuge. Browne scored a second goal early in the second-half as Cathal Kennelly followed up with a fourth to put Senans on their way to a 10 point win with Finuge still without any points from their first four games.

St Pats put themselves into the tie on five points after a 1-14 to 1-10 win at home to Keel. The St Brendans side looked like they would be going in leading at the break only for Colm O’Neill to latch on to a spilled ball from Aaron Cahillane and grab a goal for Keel in making it 1-4 to 0-7 at half-time. Willie Hurley kicked just under half of St Pats total with 0-8, (5f), but despite Stephen Cahillane making point blank saves from both Liam O’Sullivan and Brendan Poff, Brendan Savage finally got past the Keel goalkeeper in the last minute of normal time. Keel finished with 14 men after James Foley picked up a second yellow card but a combination of Paul McMahon, David O’Callaghan

and Hurley would secure St Pats’ four point win.

Waterville denied Brosna the chance to go second on their own as they defeated the visitors to Frank Casey Park by 0-12 to 1-6 with a Cillian Keane goal not enough for Brosna to claim something from their trip down south.

Dr Crokes B also missed out on the chance to go second outright when they lost away to fellow East Kerry side Listry by five points. Jack Griffin scored the first goal of the game for the Killarney side after 15 minutes but Listry found the back of the net through Danny Wren to go back in front on the scoreboard as a brace from Ronan Buckley and Joseph Clifford cancelled out Mikey Casey and David Shaw points in Listry leading by 1-8 to 1-6 at the break. Conor O’Sullivan scored a goal for the hosts a minute after the resumption to give Listry a five point lead as despite five Bryan O’Shea points for Crokes in the second period, three points from Aaron McCarthy were enough for Listry to come through a hot tempered finish by 2-14 to 1-12.

The other game played saw newly crowned Junior Champions Lispole bask in the glow of their win the previous week as despite avoiding relegation from Intermediate level themselves over the Bank Holiday weekend Laune Rangers went down by 10 points out in West Kerry.

The hosts scored 1-13 and conceded merely 1-1 in a powerful first-half display as despite scoring the first point, an Eamon Carey goal was the only other Killorglin score in the first period. Adrian Rayle scored Lispole’s goal but they adopted a more defensive approach against the breeze in the second period with Eoghan Griffin and Alan Devane prominent in their defensive duties. Rangers did manage to score a second goal but went down by 1-18 to 2-5 as they share third from bottom in the table with Listry and Keel on three points at present.

They host St Pats next while the two sides (on basis of points difference anyway) at the top of the table, Annascaul and St Senans, meet at Paddy Kennedy Park in Round Five.

Dr Crokes host Brosna in a meeting of two of the sides sharing second as Waterville host Ballydonoghue in a meeting of opposite ends of the table at present.

Finuge really do need something from their game at home to Lispole, while Listry make the relatively short journey out to Keel in a meeting of clubs formerly joined in other grades.
