Puck Queen Ella upstages Harry and Meghan

- By TADHG EVANS

NEVER mind Harry and Meghan, Puck Fair could be described as being like something from a fairytale, and another fairytale came true this week for a lucky 12-year-old student of Glounaguillagh National School.

Ella Foley from Caragh Lake realised an ambition in recent days after receiving confirmation that she will be the 2018 Queen of Puck.

She’ll have no small responsibility on August 10 in crowning the King of Puck, the world’s most respected mountain goat.

“My friends are just as excited as me, and I’m delighted that some of them will get to be with me in the parade,” a delighted Ella, an ever-present Puck-goer, said.

“Every year, me and my sister Sadhbh and brother Odhran love to meet up with our family and friends to watch the fireworks and say goodbye to Puck Fair for another year. I’m especially looking forward to this one as it will be extra special for me and my whole family.”

Ella will join King Puck on the parade, taking her place at the heart of a festival with roots in the early 17th century.

She becomes one of a select group of young ladies selected as Queen Puck in recent years. She will be joined for the occasion by relatives from Dublin and the United States.

As ever, the fair will run from August 10 to 12. Organisers have promised a wide range of fun family activities, children’s entertainment, and a host of musical acts.
