Double celebrations for two sets of Kerry twins

THERE were celebrations on the double at The Sea Lodge restaurant in Waterville last weekend, as two sets of Kerry twins celebrated some mile stone birthdays.

Aileen and Alma O’Donoghue both celebrated their 40th birthdays while their sisters Ann O’Donoghue Shields and Bríd O’Donoghue celebrated their 50th birthdays.

Having one set of twins in a family is seen as unique, but in the case of the O’Donoghue clan, twins are just par for the course it seems.

“There’s actually more sets of twins apart from us! My mom’s sister Elizabeth had twin boys and her other sister Peggy had twin boys as well,” Aileen laughed.

“Thank God that it skipped my generation anyway,” Aileen joked as she spoke to The Kerryman on Tuesday.

To celebrate what Aileen described as a “lovely occasion”, all of the family had dinner at the Sea Lodge restaurant in Waterville and Aileen said that it was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to look back at some of the years and memories of times gone by.

“Bríd and Ann were only 10 when we [Aileen and Alma] were born and they used to babysit us as we grew up. We’re a very close family,” she continued.

“After dinner, we watched a slide show of us growing up which showed all of the old pictures of us over the years. A couple of people and family that weren’t able to make it here sent us in video chats for us to watch. It was just a lovely evening,” she finished.
