Countdown is on to Tralee Summer Solstice Run

-

IT was one of the first road races in Tralee and now the Tralee Summer Solstice Run is making a welcome return to the town this June.

With a brand new route, the Tralee Solstice Run is taking place on Thursday, June 21 to celebrate the longest day of the year and runners from across Kerry are being invited to sign up for this special event.

In aid of the Irish Heart Foundation, the run is a flat course and chip timed and is open to all runners and walkers.

The route starts and finishes at the Brandon Hotel and heads down the Dan Spring Road, on towards Lidl on the Castlemaine Road, up the Caherswisheen road, on to Blennerville back to the Brandon Hotel via the road. “Walk, run or jog, whichever way you can, it is all for fun and in aid of charity,” says organiser, Jim McNeice.

Such is the popularity of the race that places are already filling up fast and anyone interested in taking part must sign up as soon as possible or face disappointment. To ensure a well run and fun event places are limited and everyone taking part will receive a specially designed medal.

Jim says that a lot of effort has gone into the revival of the Tralee Summer Solstice Run, which has a special place in the town. “This race has a long history in the town before running was popular and it will be great to have this run taking place again this year. We have a new route and a great new event so don’t miss out out on this summer run.”

Jim is also behind the revival of the Kerry Ultra Marathon, a 50k and 100k ultra race around North Kerry which takes place on August 25.

Sign up for the Tralee Summer Solstice is online at www.kerryultra. com and the cost is €20. The race will start at 7.30pm in the evening, allowing all runners to take part in a fun run after work.
