Generosity to the fore on a classic Friday
HOME from Home After School Services Volunteer Mick Leahy said his group was left astounded at the generosity and goodwill on display for Home from Home after a hugely successful Golf Classic at Mahony’s Point last Friday.
Almost 50 teams of four took part in the classic, and while funds are still being totted up, Mick says the total is expected to be in the region of €18,000. With more than 25 sponsored tee boxes and a generously supported raffle, the day was, by any measure, a resounding triumph, and one Mick is not likely to forget any time soon.
“It was a huge achievement,” he said. “We are in awe of all the support and generosity shown to us by the people of Killarney, Kenmare, and the wider locality.
“Everything on the day went our way. The weather was gorgeous, and our teams and sponsors were very good to us. I want to thank the Golf Club, and both Paul Cotter and Tim Jones for helping us out on the food front. But I don’t want to single anyone out, because the generosity shown across the board was just unbelievable. All of us here at Home from Home are just delighted with how it went.”
The main winners on the day were the quartet of Barry Duggan, Seánie Kelleher, Pat O’Mahony, and Donal Cronin with a score of 94 points. They narrowly defeated Dennis Nash, Dan Cronin, Seamus O’Neill, and Jamie O’Neill (92) – though they achieved some consolation, securing the best score on the back-nine.
