Enright out with Walsh and Casey unlikely to face Clare

-

SHANE Enright will not play against Clare in Sunday’s Munster SFC semi-final, while Donnchadh Walsh and Daithí Casey are considered very doubtful to play a part for Kerry.

Enright has an ankle injury and is out for the next couple of weeks, while Walsh and Casey both have “light knocks really but they would be doubts for next weekend” according to Fitzmaurice, who confirmed that every other member of the panel is available for selection.

“We haven’t really cut (the panel)’” Fitzmaurice said, “I suppose we are conscious that it’s kind of a unique summer (with) the format that’s coming up, that if we are to get that far that we’ll need a big squad that’s ready to go, so at the moment all of the group are involved really. All of the lads that were involved during the League are still involved with us.

The manager confirmed that James O’Donoghue is back to full fitness and is ready to play against Clare if called upon.

“He’s fine, he’s good to go. He’s trained well, he’s fine. I think that with James he just needs to stay injury free. He had a fantastic Munster Championship last year and then he picked up a couple of knocks between the Munster championship and the All-Ireland series that affected him. I think if we can keep James healthy for the summer the consistent form and consistent performances come with that,” Fitzmaurice said, adding that Killian Young is also “back now full tilt.”

Asked about having any concerns over a lack of match sharpness for some players Fitzmaurice said: “I don’t. I think that again because it’s a different summer I just think that (Darran O’Sullivan, Kilian Young, James O’Donoghue) they’re all experienced players and they’re all coming into good form now, which is the right time for them. The football we play in training I would argue is as good as any game you are going to play without the emotional demands of playing an actual Championship game so I’m not worried. I think they’re injury free and they’re fresh so that’s good for us.”

Johnny Buckley has stepped away from the Kerry panel due to what Eamonn Fitzmaurice called “personal family reasons”.
