The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
Glenbeigh / Glencar stuck in relegation zone
DIVISION ONE
LAST year’s Mid Kerry finalists did battle here with a lot potentially at stake in terms of the relegation battle but Beaufort pulled themselves clear of it for now and left the former All-Ireland Junior champions stuck in the relegation zone. Stephen O’Sullivan scored the opening point for the visitors but Ronan Ferris responded with a goal for the hosts that set the tone for their dominance. Tommy Cahill scored all Glenbeigh/Glencar’s remaining firsthalf points as Jeremiah O’Sullivan and Fergal Hallissey finished Beaufort’s first-half scoring with decent efforts for a lead of 1-5 to 0-5.
1-2 without reply after the restart saw Beaufort eight points ahead and firmly on their way to victory as Ferris scored his second goal for a personal total of 2-1. Gavan O’Grady being substituted meant that all Glenbeigh/ Glencar remaining scores came from Tommy Cahill (1-7 in total) as his goal came as a consolation score with seven minutes left. Bernard Murphy was dismissed for a second yellow card to compound the visitors’ woes as Beaufort had eight different scorers in a seven point win.
This result sets up a crunch meeting between Glenbeigh/Glencar and Dingle at the foot of the table in Round Six. One it would be very hard to see a potential loser of emerge from the bottom three to safety come the campaign’s end.
