- ATHLETICS Tessa Dennison

TRALEE Harrier and IT Tralee athletes Solange Diogo and Travane Morrison travelled to Scotland last Saturday as part of the 65-strong Irish University Athletics team who took on their Scottish university counterparts.

The Irish team came away with the overall win, taking the title for the fifth consecutive year. There was double gold for Travane in the men’s 100m and 200m and Solange finished in fourth place in the women’s triple jump.

Closer to home An Riocht’s Jer Cremin took the M40 combined events title at the Irish Life Health Championships, which were held in Morton Stadium last weekend. Jer accumulated 2,766 points over five evens to create a new national record.

Jer ran 16.67 seconds in the 110m hurdles, leapt out to 5.13m in the long jump, up to a height of 1.66m in the high jump, threw 7.58m in the shot and rounded off the day by clocking 5.16.68 in the 1,500m.

Many apologies to Deirdre Kelly from Iveragh, representing Coláiste na Sceilge, who was omitted from the Munster Schools track and field results last week. Deirdre finished in second place in the Junior girls 800m to qualify for the national finals this weekend. Wishing her and all the other Kerry athletes travelling to Tullmore the best of luck.

St Brendan’s open sports will be held on bank holiday Monday, June 4 at 1pm in Ardfert sports field. There will be events for boys and girls from tiny tots to Under 14, including relays and field events.
