Comfortable wins for Dr Crokes, O’Rahillys and An Ghaeltacht

-

St Marys 1-13 Dr Crokes 3-15

TWENTY-ONE matches unbeaten now for Dr Crokes in the County League as they won their 20th match as part of that run down in Cahersiveen on Saturday with two first-half goals the key to them getting the better of St Marys. Jordan Kiely and Gavin O’Shea had scored 1-1 before anyone had really settled down as a second goal from David O’Leary ensured Crokes would lead by 2-9 to 0-5 at the break despite points from Bryan Sheehan, Dan and Jack Daly for the hosts.

Jack Daly might have scored the first point of the second period but Crokes responded with five unanswered as St Marys best period of the match did produced 1-6 without reply. Bryan Sheehan scored a penalty and added three points while Dan Daly added three also but it only reduced the margin to five with Crokes finding a third goal on their way to an eight point success.

Dr Crokes welcome Kerins O’Rahillys to Lewis Road in their next encounter knowing a win would put them further ahead of Strand Road in the table. St Marys are in East Kerry themselves to take on Rathmore, a match they will want to get out of the relegation spots.

Kerins O’Rahillys 1-16 John Mitchels 0-10

EIGHT points for Tommy Walsh in a nine point win for Kerins O’Rahillys over fellow Tralee side John Mitchels was one of the most noteworthy features of O’Rahillys going into a share of third with An Gaeltacht in the table. Only for a strong goalkeeping performance by John Mitchels Dermot Raggett the margin could have been a lot more as the hosts started with the opening 1-2 in proceedings. Con Barrett played a 1-2 with John C O’Connor for the game’s only goal after 20 seconds before Alan O’Donoghue, Stephen O’Mahoney and Michael Walsh eventually got John Mitchels on the scoreboard.

Tommy Walsh hit five points before the break in his side leading by 1-10 to 0-5 at half-time as a black card for Mitchels’ Alan O’Donoghue proved to be a setback to their efforts at a turnaround. Ross O’Callaghan, Danny O’Sullivan, Cormac Coffey, Cian Sayers and Shane Brosnan were impressive in defence for the victors as Patrick Kearney, Jarlath Carney, Sean Moloney and Jonathan O’Halloran were some of Mitchels better performers alongside James and Wayne Duggan along with Wayne Conway.

Mitchels stay out of the relegation zone for now but know they have a bg game for themselves at home to Legion in the next round.

An Ghaeltacht 3-17 Legion 2-12

LAST year’s runners-up moved back into contention for another shot at making the decider with an eight point victory at home to Legion in Gallarus on Saturday. They overcame the setback of the concession of an early goal to their opponents, Conor Keane the scorer as the visitors led by 1-8 to 0-9 at half-time. The battle between Jonathon Lyne and Tomas Ó Sé had been one of the main features of the game as Eanna Ó Conchúir and Damien O’Sullivan had a big battle also during the match.

An Ghaeltacht had been against the breeze in the first period so they would not have been too disappointed to trail by two points at the break as their three goals in the second period came from Ciaran Ó Cóileáin, Óigí and Tomas Ó Sé in going on to claim their third win in the campaign with Conor Keane scoring a consolation goal late on for the Killarney side. The West Kerry side focus on the Comortas tournament this Bank Holiday weekend as they return to County League action in two weeks away to Beaufort.
