Hurling championship first round draw and launch
THE launch and Round 1 draw for the 2018 Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Hurling Championship takes place at the Tralee Bay Wetlands tonight (Wednesday) at 7pm. Round 1 is scheduled for the weekend of June 17 with the County Final on Sunday, August 26.
Póc Fadá Ciarraí
COMÓRTAS Póc Fadá Ciarraí, the county long puck hurling competition will take place over a course on Kerryhead Mountain on Bank Holiday Monday, June 4, at 1pm.
Each club is invited to send one competitor to participate in the senior and under 16 hurling and camogie sections. The perpetual trophy for the senior competition is sponsored by the North Kerry Hurling Board. All entries to john.g.lucid@gmail.com before Friday, June 1.
Competition co-ordinator: Ger McCarthy, Kerry Munster Council delegate.
Joe McDonagh Cup
THE Kerry senior hurlers travel to Páirc Tailteann in Navan on this Saturday, June 2 for round 4 of the Joe McDonagh Cup. The game commences at 3pm.
The last game in the league stages will be on Saturday, June 9 away to Antrim at Pearse Park, Dunloy.
County Leagues
COUNTY Senior Hurling League Division 1 Round 6 results: Abbeydorney 1-18 St. Brendans 1-15; Causeway 3-9 Kilmoyley 2-8; Ballyduff 0-12 Crotta 0-11; Lixnaw 0-16 Ballyheigue 0-14.
Causeway is on top with full points after six wins. Kilmoyley are on eight, while three teams are level on six points [Crotta, St. Brendans and Ballyduff]; Abbeydorney are on five points; Lixnaw have two and Ballyheigue are at foot of the table with one point. Last round is scheduled for on Sunday, June 24.
The County Senior Hurling League Division 2 commences on this Wednesday, May 30, 7.30pm with the following fixtures (first named at home):
Division 2A: Kenmare v Dr. Crokes; Abbeydorney v Kilgarvan; Ballyheigue v Austin Stacks;
Division 2B: Crotta v St. Brendan’s; Lady’s Walk v Lixnaw; Kilmoyley v Causeway. All games at 7.30pm.
Round 2 is fixed for Sunday, June 3
Division 2A: Kilgarvan v Ballyheigue; Dr. Crokes v Abbeydorney; Austin Stacks v Kenmare.
Division 2B: Lixnaw v Kilmoyley; St. Brendan’s v Lady’s Walk; Causeway v Crotta. Check with clubs for fixture details.
Celtic Challenge
IN the Celtic Challenge Under 17 Hurling competition last Wednesday, Kerry had their fourth win in a row, defeating North Cork by 4-17 to 2-10. Kerry has a bye this week.
Coiste na nÓg
IN the Lee Strand County Under 16 Division 2 hurling Final played at Ballyheigue, St Brendans had a 4-19 to 5-7 win over Lixnaw. The trophy was presented by the competition co-ordinator, Timmy Weir, to Cian McCarthy, St. Brendan’s captain.
County Under 14 hurling semi-final results: Division 1-Lixnaw 3-14 Kenmare/Kilgarvan 2-10; Lixnaw play the winners of Ballyheigue v Ballyduff in the final on this Saturday, 2 June.
Division 2-Kilmoyley 4-10 South Kerry 4-3; St. Brendan’s 2-9 Tralee Parnell’s 2-9 [after extra time]-replay fixed for this Saturday, June 2 with the winners playing Kilmoyley in the final on Saturday, June 9. All games at 6pm.
North Kerry
THE North Kerry Under 11 league commenced last Friday when Ballyduff had a 7-4 to 3-6 win over St Brendans.
The competition continues on this Friday, June 1 6.30pm with the following fixtures: Group 1, Round 2-Lixnaw v St. Brendan’s; Tralee Parnell’s v Kilmoyley; Ballyduff bye. Group 2, Round 1-Abbeydorney v Ballyheigue; Crotta v Causeway.
North Kerry Under 10 Blitz 1 takes place at Abbeydorney on Saturday, June 9 commencing at 10am.
