Five goal Glenflesk claim county Under 14 crown

UNDER 14 COUNTY LEAGUE FINAL DIVISION 1

- COISTE NA NÓG Jimmy D’Arcy

Glenflesk 5-9 Laune Rangers 2-16

NO one doubted that the two best sides were clashing in an eagerly anticipated final, with Laune Rangers having taken the Féile title at their last meeting.

They made the early running on this occasion, Eoghan Hassett, Jack Burke, and sharpshooter Jack O’Sullivan (2f) on target to a lone John Kelliher point for Glenflesk. Hassett, who was superb all through, burst through for a great goal and Adam Owens made it 1-5 to 0-1.

Seán Guerin pulled a point back and Luke Crowley was unlucky with a goal attempt that flashed wide. Jack O’Sullivan pointed but Darragh O’Connor that in for the goal that Glenflesk had been threatening.

Eoghan Hassett and Luke Crowley exchanged points before Cillian Foley made it 1-8 to 1-3. Darragh O’Grady and Jack O’Sullivan extended the lead, while Eoghan Hassett launched a blistering rocket that just skinned outside the goalpost.

Dylan Roche picked off two frees before Eddie Walsh sounded the half-time whistle. Half-time Laune Rangers 1-10 Glenflesk 1-5

Dylan Roche opened the second half scoring before setting up Luke Crowley for a goal, while Jack O’Sullivan scored two great points for Laune Rangers. Eoghan Ruadh had brought Dylan Roche out to the forty, and it proved a masterstroke as he was in the thick of the action and had space to work in, quickly adding a point and a goal after a great Luke Crowley pass.

Suddenly Glenflesk were in front and accelerating, as Ignatius O’Leary slammed in two great goals and Dylan added another point. At this stage the five goal rule kicked in – any further Glenflesk goals would only count as a point.

Laune Rangers were desperately unlucky themselves with two goal chances, Darragh O’Grady denied by the crossbar and John Burke denied by the post. Jack O’Sullivan and Dylan Roche did exchange points.

Laune Rangers tried very hard to close the gap, with Eoghan Hassett’s pass across the goalmouth intercepted at the last second. He did add a point and Darragh O’Grady two more, but Jack O’Sullivan’s last point, as good as any that he scored all day, was their last flicker against fate as Glenflesk claimed the title.
