Defeat in Cobh for Kerry Under 15s

SSE AIRTRICITY U-15 LEAGUE

-

Cobh Ramblers 1 Kerry 0

WHEN this game eventually got going in Pat O’Brien Park, a change of venue from where it had been re-fixed for, it was the home side that started the better with Jake Lynch flashing a header wide.

Kerry then needed a last ditch tackle from Sean Kererski on Tieran O’Brien to keep the game scoreless, while Sean Dillane and Ryan Guerin also did very well when Cobh looked like opening the scoring.

Kerry were living on little possession but a Sean Ryan run almost paid dividends and a Sean Horan effort went close but the game remained scoreless at the break.

Kerry began the second half on the front foot with the introduction of Cian Brosnan causing Cobh problems. Rob Vassiu and Cian Clancy were also putting balls into the Cobh danger area but the home side stood firm.

Indeed the only goal of the game came from a well- defended Kerry free. In the 63rd minute Cobh broke and won a free kick of their own on the right wing.

This was whipped in by Adam McCarthy and when it broke at the back post Brandon Idah was on hand to smash it home at the near post.

Credit to Kerry as from there on they were on top and deserved an equaliser. Cian Brosnan was almost in but the home keeper Gavin Ryan was quickly off his line. The Sean Ryan rounded the keeper and looked like he had scored, but the Cobh defender got back to make a great clearance off the line. From the corner Caolan O’Connell flashed his hearer just over.

Kerry continued to push but the Cobh defence held out for an important win. Kerry will take a lot of positives from their last two games as they head into the summer break.
