HOMES FOR OUR SENIOR CITIZENS

At this months meeting of Kerry Co. Council Fianna Fail Councillor Michael Cahill called on the Council to liaise with Voluntary Groups in the County and initiate ‘’Homes for our senior citizans scheme’’ whereby houses will be constructe­d / purchased in each town and village throughout Kerry where demands exist. He stated that people are living longer now and need to be closer to shops, Church, Post Office Services etc. it would also address loneliness. He said that he has been informed that Voluntary Housing Bodies such as Cluid and others have funding for same.

The council replied, The department of housing, planning and Local government provide funding for either constructi­on or acquisitio­n of housing accomadati­on to cater fot priority groups under Capital Assistance Scheme where groups are as follows. Elderly, Homeless, people with a disability.

Kerry Co Council issued a call for C.A.S. proposals in 2017. Proposals continue to be accepted on a ‘’rolling basis’’. The cCouncil have a very active working relationsh­ip with a number of approved Housing bodiesand will continue to work together in partnershi­p withthem to deliver housing for the priority group.
