Killarney Soroptimists produce the goods for two local charities

THERE were lovely scenes at the Gleneagle Hotel last week as two local charities received funds of almost €2,000 each from Killarney Soroptimists.

Down Syndrome Kerry and Killarney Community Services [KCS] each received €1,950 after Killarney Soroptimists held a fund-raising pancake and morning at the Killarney Avenue Hotel last February.

Speaking to The Kerryman after last Wednesday’s cheque presentation, Patricia Griffin explained that her group needs donations such as the one it received from the Soroptimist Club.

“We are very grateful for any donations we received and we were very glad that the club thought to include us in this fund-raiser,” Patricia said.

“While we provide a wide range of services, these particular funds have been earmarked to support young people who avail of our services find employment. We are already getting them ready to move into mainstream employment by providing them some work at Deenagh Lodge and our 321 charity shop in Tralee. This programme is also aimed at supporting employers who will take them on.”

Trinette Larkin of Killarney Community Services was equally grateful for the support from Killarney Soroptimists. She explained that KCS has provided its clients with day trips to places such as Muckross House, Rossbeigh, and more, and the funding will strengthen the group’s ability to provide these services.

“We also provide such as arts and crafts, and these funds will help us in this line also,” she said. “Killarney Soroptimists had already supported us in the past, and we were delighted that they chose to help us again with this fundraiser.”
