An exciting new era with all the old charm retained

NICKS is an iconic restaurant in Killorglin and one of its key strengths has always been its ability to evolve and meet the needs of customers. Killorglin couple, Sean and Sinead Houlihan and their family have recently taken over Nicks and they’re already stamping new and energetic ideas on the restaurant.

The Houlihan family know that Nicks has a sterling reputation but their objective is to provide a more accessible dining experience, one that caters for a multitude of different occasions, functions and Sunday lunches.

“The introduction of the Sunday lunches is proving very popular. We already have a thriving al la carte menu and an early bird menu for €28 (5pm to 7pm) for our evening diners. But we want to broaden this and let people know Nicks is available for Sunday lunches and other private functions as well,” Sean said. Sunday lunches start from €11.95 and this is an ideal option for families looking to enjoy a relaxing Sunday. In the course of a normal week, the timeline of Nicks Restaurant can host anything from a Sunday lunch and evening meal, to private party, including funeral functions. The latter is an important service as finding a venue to suit is sometimes difficult given all that has to be organised. Nicks Restaurant caters for funeral functions with a capacity of 100 people downstairs, and a private room upstairs that seats 45.

“We’re excited about our plans for Nicks but we also want to retain that warm and welcoming atmosphere which is added to by being a family run restaurant. We like our customers to know that their custom is appreciated.” Sean also insists the chefs are committed to providing the best culinary experience using fresh and local ingredients. All the food is prepared fresh every day and is cooked to timely perfection. The chefs believe that to do this any other way compromises taste by up to 70 percent. “The food is mouth-watering and we’re delighted so many locals have supported us. We’re here as a family and we believe in meeting people as they come through the doors,” Sean added.
