Night of champions beckons

THE Annual Kerry GAA Night of Champions is on next Friday night, June 8 at the Kingdom Greyhound Stadium and once again features the “Kerry GAA Supporters Club” Race of Champions, with €15,000 to the winner and an overall Prize fund of €21,000.

Following three great semi-finals last Friday night the probable favourite to win the 2018 Kerry GAA Supporters Club Race of Champions will be one of Ireland’s top female runners Droopys Ant, with second favourite likely to be 2017 Laurels and St Ledger Winner Clonbrien Hero. We have one Kerry finalist in Ballymac Meena running in Trap 4 for Liam Dowling of Ballymacel­ligott.

The Kerry Group Sponsored Club Sweepstake final is the important race for the clubs twinned with the six dogs who have reached the final. A prize fund of up to €4,000 will be shared by these clubs.

The trap draw and clubs is as follows – Trap 1 (Ballylane Vic) Tralee Parnells and Asdee, Trap 2 (Skips Brew) Tarbert and West Kerry Board, Trap 3 (Ballymac Taxi) Glenflesk and Coiste na nÓg, Trap 4 (Confident Petal) Duagh, Trap 5 (Srasota Black) South Kerry Board and Trap 6 (Fast Mike) Fossa.

All clubs have received €10 entry tickets and are asked to sell 40 tickets each and return the sold tickets stubs and €400 to the Kerry County Board by 4pm on Friday next.

The €10 ticket also entitles the purchaser to be included in a raffle of six prizes, with the first prize an overnight stay in a Dublin hotel and two tickets for either the All Ireland football or hurling final.

The popular best dressed lady competitio­n is sponsored by Diane Jeffers of the Jasmine Boutique and Diane will be looking for a lady wearing something elegant and race appropriat­e.

There will be a bouncing castle and face painting available for children and Kerry players will be available for photograph­s and autographs. Music and entertainm­ent will be provided from 7pm. First race starts at 7.40pm so come early and enjoy the night!
