Balloonagh win derby against Gaelscoil in Division One Final
DIVISION ONE FINAL Scoil Eoin Balloonagh 2-8 Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn 0-4
DESPITE what the scoreline might suggest this was a really competitive division one final. This young Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn side gave their downtowm rivals a stern test on their way to victory.
Grace Ní Luasaigh opened the scoring with a fine point in the second minute. Scoil Eoin responded with points from Niamh Collins, Deirdre Quigley and the lively and deadly accurate Saoirse Moriarty who registered two. Grace Ní Luasaigh notched her second point to leave just two between the sides half way through.
Every ball was keenly contested as the sides went in search of the all important scores and the stronger Scoil Eoin girls worked the ball well and finished the half with a further two points and the all important goal on the stroke of half time from the impressive Rachel O’Mahony.
Saoirse Moriarty’s registered the two points. Full credit to the Gaelscoil girls as they battled all through and had top performers in Elsie Peig Nic Ruairí, Grace Ní Dhomhaill, Sadhb Ní Shlathra, Abi Nic Conamara, Hannah Mai Ní Luasaigh, Doireann de Mórdha and top scorer Grace Ní Luasaigh who scored two fine second half points.
Though confined to a Saoirse Moriarty goal and a point each from Niamh Collins and Mary Moore in the second half this result was never really in doubt as the gaelscoil found scores hard to come by.
Scoil Eoin had top performances from Grace Reidy, Keelin Coffey, Lucy O’Connor, Bronagh O’Carroll and Lucy O’Donnell.
