SENIOR: Laune Rangers completed the Mid Kerry Senior League on Saturday evening with a home game against Milltown/Castlemaine in JP O’Sullivan Park. The spate of injuries that have befallen Rangers in recent weeks was increased with the pregame withdrawal of Johnny Carey, while his brother Patrick as well as Neil O’Brien picked up shoulder injuries during the game. The game was one sided from the outset as a strong Milltown side took a double digit lead into the break. A Gavin Horan goal put the visitors in a commanding lead, as Rangers struggled to put some play together. Milltown led by 0-5 to 0-1 after 15 minutes, a Donal Dennehy point the highlight for the visiting side as Colm O’Shea pointed a free for Rangers. Milltown/Castlemaine added two more points before Horan netted his side’s first goal of the game, and would twice more before the short whistle. Dáire Cleary added one at the opposite end for Rangers in the same period. Half Time Score:- Laune Rangers 0-2, Milltown/Castlemaine 1-9. Milltown scored a second goal in the opening minute of the second half through Jack McCarthy, and they went on to net twice more before the end of the game through Jamie O’Shea and Jonathan O’Sullivan (penalty). Rangers for their part hit the net from the penalty spot also as Cleary scored having been fouled himself, while Colm O’Shea (4, 3 frees) and James Lynch added points. Full Time Score:- Laune Rangers 1-7, Milltown/Castlemaine 4-14. Laune Rangers:- Jason Browne, Pierce Tyther, Darragh O’Shea, Cormac Johnston, Patrick Carey, Ronan Sayers, Michael O’Sullivan, Neil O’Brien, Chris Riordan, Gavin O’Shea, Kieran Doona, Dáire Cleary (1-1), Daniel Whittleton, Colm O’Shea (0-5, 4f), Eamonn Carey. Subs: Patrick Daly for P Carey, James Lynch (0-1) for O’Brien.

SENIOR FIXTURE: Laune Rangers travel to Listry on Sunday next, June 10th for Round 6 of the County Senior Football League. Throw in 2pm in Faha.

B TEAM: The Mid Kerry Junior League continued on Tuesday evening as Laune Rangers travelled to Milltown/Castlemaine where a late Derek Twiss penalty took the spoils for the home side. Milltown/ Castlemaine had the benefit of calling on experienced campaigners in Twiss, Mike Burke, Damien Murphy, Jeremiah Hayes, Brendan Delaney among others which served them well on the night. Rangers got off to a great start as Jesse McCormack struck the net for a great goal after 25 seconds of play. However, from the following kickout, disaster struck for McCormack who fell to ground awkwardly and dislocated his shoulder. Jamie O’Shea (free) and Colin McKenna points were followed by a Brendan Delaney goal to give the hosts a two point lead. Rangers responded well, as Gavin O’Shea and James Lynch pointed to level the game. Patrick Daly (free) and Jamie O’Shea traded points to leave the sides level at 1-3 a piece after 15 minutes. There was little between the sides throughout as both teams had periods of dominance in the game. The second quarter was a good example of this as points from Darragh O’Sullivan & Kieran Doona for Rangers were cancelled out by Jamie O’Shea and Mike Burke for Milltown to see the sides go in level at the break.

Half Time Score:- Milltown/Castlemaine 1-5, Laune Rangers 1-5. Rangers withdrew Darragh O’Sullivan at Half Time after the midfielder picked up a knock during the first half. Chris Riordan & Derek Twiss traded points before Rangers struck the net for a second time -- James Lynch sending the ball towards goal where Pa Knightly rushed in & may have got a touch on it to put Rangers ahead. Milltown responded and 3 Derek Twiss points levelled the game again with 13 minutes to play.

Laune Rangers kicked three unanswered points of their own through Neil O’Brien, Paudie O’Shea and Patrick Daly (free) - O’Brien’s losing his footing as the last second which forced his shot over the bar. Derek Twiss added a free to leave two between the sides, and in the 60th minute, a foul inside the square saw a penalty awarded to the hosts. Derek Twiss stepped up and rattled the net for the winning score that brought his own tally to 1-5. It was enough for the home side to hold on to win by the minimum.

Full Time Score: Milltown/Castlemaine ‘B’ 2-10, Laune Rangers ‘B’ 2-9.
