Tight race for Division 1B final places

THIS was a game both sides needed to win to try and get to the final and it was Asdee Rovers who took the spoils showing tremendous character to come back from 2-1 down to snatch a late winner.

Asdee went ahead in the 17th minute with a fine strike by Joseph Lynch but a minute later the sides were level when Alan McNamara headed home a Maurice Slattery corner kick.

Castlegregory went ahead in the 30th minute after a great over the top ball found Damian Finn and he applied a clinical finish.

The West kerry side had a few chances to extend their lead early in the second half but they failed to make any use of them.

Asdee equalised in the 61st minute after penetrating build up play from Martin Collins and Joe Lynch created an opening for Darragh Keane and he tucked away his shot with great precision to put the game in the boiling pot.

As the game entered the concluding stages it appeared to be heading for a draw.

However Asdee struck in the 86th minute when they put a number of good passes together at midfield where Martin Collins won the ball and it was flicked on to Eamon Leahy inside the box and he applied a superb finish.

This win puts Asdee into second position in the table and a win in their final game against table toppers Windmill United will put them into the final.

THIS division is coming to a very exciting conclusion with Windmill United, Asdee Rovers, Castlegregory and Listowel Celtic B having just one game left to play.

At present Windmill are on top with 34 points, Asdee are second on 32 points, Listowel Celtic are 3rd on 31 points while Castlegregory are fourth on 29 points.

In the final two games in the division Windmill United play Asdee Rovers with Windmill needing just a point to make the final while a win for Asdee would put them in the decider.

In the other game Castlegregory play Listowel Celtic B and both need to win to have a chance of making the final.

There are a number of permutations that can arise depending on the results of the two games and it is quite possible that it might take a play off to decide one of the places in the final so a very nervous end to the league programme for the four clubs involved. Final two games

DENNY PREMIER A Killarney Celtic 4 Tralee Dynamos 2

KILLARNEY Celtic concluded their league programme with an unbeaten record at Celtic Park on Sunday defeating Tralee Dynamos who are now relegated to Premier B. Lee Downing (2), Stephen McCarthy and Wayne Sparling scored for the winners while Leo Gaxha and Shane Lowth scored for Dynamos.

It was a day when Killarney Celtic’s long serving midfielder Stephen Hayes made his retirement. Stephen has been a wonderful servant of the club over the years and has been held in the highest regard by clubs all over the county. His commitment and dedication to the game has been admirable and everyone wishes him the best for the future.

WITH Tralee Dynamos losing it meant these two sides would survive irrespective of the result of the game. In a tight game the sides had to settle for a point each James Nagle and Thomas Templeman scored for Mastergeeha.

KILLARNEY Celtic enhanced their chances of avoiding relegation with a crucial win over CSKA Tralee in their final league game of the season. David Spillane, Lee Downing and Jordan Reyes scored for the winners.
