The Kerryman (South Kerry Edition)
ADVENTURE TOURISM offering more options for visitors
KERRY’S diverse and scenic landscape make it a natural hotspot for adventure tourism which is now bang on trend. One of the advantages of being an adventure tourist is knowing that fine weather and the time of year is less of a factor.
The surge in cycling, running, walking and water sports in recent years has meant the traditional tourist season of June, July and August is no longer the case. Many people now consider early spring and late autumn as ideal times for adventure tourism. They also have the added bonus of it being a quieter time of year, it is off-peak too which means accommodation is cheaper and more relaxing.
Kerry is the perfect adventure tourism location for sea kayaking, mountain biking, hill walking and mountain climbing, nature and environmental trips, canoeing, horse riding, and cycling. All this can be enjoyed in places like the Reeks District, Kenmare Bay, the Gap of Dunloe, Killarney Lakes and National Park, Caragh Lake, Dingle, Tralee, and parts of north Kerry.
Adventure tourism is a booming industry because it is meeting the demands of people who want more than just a sun holiday. It also links in with the ever-growing trend in fitness. Groups are now heading away for weekends to take part in marathons and cycling events in a way unimaginable compared to 20 years ago. Adventure tourism is a healthier, more convenient and time friendly way of enjoying a holiday.
