MUNSTER JUVENILE U9 TO U13 TRACK & FIELD

The Munster Juvenile U9 to U13 Track & Field Championsh­ips were held over two days in Lees Road, Ennis. Most of our juveniles competing were doing so for the very first time at Munster level. Rachel Boyle finished in 10th place for the U10 60m sprint. Eabha McCarthy qualified for the finals of the U13 60m Hurdles. In the final she finished in 5th place with a new personal best time of 10.66sec. Mairead Walsh ran the U12 600m distance, placed 25th in a time of 2:13. Rhian McCarthy was placed 20th out of 41 competitor­s in the U11 600m finishing in a time of 2:07. Leah McCarthy was 11th in the U9 300m. Ryan Vickers was 21st in the U9 60m sprint, 29th in the 300m distance and 15th in the Long Jump. Isaac Vickers was 10th in the U10 60m sprint and placed 5th in the 500m distance in a time of 1:35 He also competed in the Long Jump and Turbo Javelin where he was fifth. Doireann O’Shea had a great day where she was placed 4th in the U13 Javelin with a throw of 17.71m, 15th in the Long Jump and was 9th in the Shot. Niamh O’Shea was 22nd in the U12 shot and 7th in the Turbo Javelin. Kevin O’Shea was the star of the week where he competed in numerous event in both field and on the track. His best performanc­e was in the U10 Turbo Javelin where he won individual silver with a great throw of 18.56m

SCHOOLS TRACK & FIELD

The National Schools Track & Field Championsh­ips were held in Tullamore on Saturday 2nd June. There was a host of topclass performanc­es throughout the action-packed day of 122 events. Aine O’Shea (Mercy MountHawk) was 7th in the Minor Shot with a throw of 8.34m. Cian Spillane (Pres. Milltown) finished just outside the medals in 4th place for the Minor 800m. He ran a new personal best time of 2:11.83. Patrick Kearney (St. Brendans) was 5th in the Junior Discus with a fine throw of 30.13m. Siofra Foley (St. Brigids) was 12th in the Intermedia­te Javelin with a throw of 16.70m.

PRIMARY SCHOOLS SPORTS

There was a great turnout for the annual District Primary Schools Sports. There was a strong turnout from most primary shhools with plenty of exciting competitio­n in all classes. Those who were placed in the top three will now go forward to represent their schools in the County Primary Schools Sports on Wednesday June 13th at 6pm in An Riocht Track, Castleisla­nd. All schools will be notified shortly with the list of qualifiers. We thank Listry GAA for allowing the use of their facilities and to all our volunteers who helped make the evening such an enjoyable occasion for the school children.

CLUB TRAINING

Juvenile training on Tuesday 6pm to 6:45pm at Farranfore GAA Grounds. This will be in preparatio­n for the Munster Track & Field scheduled for June. This is for children born 2010 (7/8yrs) to 2004 (14yrs). €2 per session. New comers always welcome.

Secondary School & Senior training on every Thursday will be at An Riocht Track, Castleisla­nd from 7:45pm to 8:45pm. This is endurance / distance training & Field events. Last session will be June 21st. €2 club member, €4 non club member.
