DEATH TRAP BEND ON CARAGH LAKE ROAD

Renewed Call For Improvement Works To Be Carried Out To Death Trap Bend On Caragh Lake Road.

Councillor Michael Cahill has made renewed calls to Kerry County Council and the Department of Transport to realign the Caragh Lake Road in the vicinity of the Railway Cottage at Quaybawn, Glenbeigh, as a matter of extreme urgency. The Fianna Fail Councillor said major "Health and Safety=94 improvement works need to be carried out to this "Death Trap Bend" as a matter of priority before someone is killed or seriously injured. Councillor Cahill said there are bits of glass and pieces of cars on the road at this treacherous location, every time you pass. "I am again highlighting this extremely dangerous bend yet again as I know it is one of the most dangerous in the country and I am genuinely fearful that there will be more serious accidents at this location", stated the Rossbeigh Councillor.

Reply: An application for funding for Safety Improvement Works at this location on the L-4020 was submitted to the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in October of last year. However, the scheme did not receive funding when the 2019 Regional and Local Roads allocations were announced. It is intended to re-submit the scheme when the Department invites proposals for 2019 which is expected to be in Q3 of this year.
